What Do You Say To A Naked Lady?

LP (Item 72416) United Artists, 1970 — Condition: Sealed
A very strange little record – composed for a very strange film directed by Allen "Candid Camera" Funt – in which people are surprised by a nude woman, and have to react accordingly. There's a lot of tunes on here that have an almost Harper's Bizarre feel – that kind of "sweet, but dark inside" style that we love from late 60s rock albums on Warner Brothers. The mood changes from track to track, to fit the situations of the scenes – and there's plenty of great tunes on here with sweet or groovy vocals and a hip easy soft pop style. Titles include "Kids", "Too Bad You Can't Read My Mind", "Pardon Me", "Let's Get Down To It", "What Do You Say To A Naked Lady", and "Hail To Humanity".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Michel Legrand

Happy Ending
United Artists, 1969. Near Mint-
A slice of genius from Michel Legrand – one of his brilliant late 60s soundtracks, not as well remembered as, but cut during the same period as The Thomas Crown Affair. The soundtrack is probably best remembered for the incredible theme "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Manos Hadjidakis

Topkapi
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
A standout 60s soundtrack from the great Manos Hadjidakis – penned for a heist thriller from director Jules Dassin! The music follows slightly off the Dassin/Hadjidakis pairing on Never On A Sunday – using lots of familiar Greek elements, but moving these into more complicated film ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Barry/Shirley Bassey

Goldfinger
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
The soundtrack that put John Barry over the top – and to many, THE James Bond soundtrack! The album chills from the first notes of the haunting title theme – the majestic "Goldfinger", sung by Shirley Bassey with a tone that's as dangerous as a razor-sharp hat spinning ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, 1965. Near Mint-
A swinging sex comedy score from the legendary Neal Hefti – not as well-known as some of his big 60s hits, but a wonderfully groovy record throughout! The film itself is a pretty silly farce – and Hefti definitely matches that action in his music – by mixing up jazzy, upbeat ... LP, Vinyl record album

Georges Garvarentz

Triple Cross
United Artists, 1967. Very Good+
A war soundtrack – but with some different touches that make it nicer than you'd think! The music was written by groovy French composer Georges Garvarentz, and performed in the KPM studios by Roland Shaw's orchestra – so despite the fact that the setting of the film is a military ... LP, Vinyl record album

Riz Ortolani

Glory Guys
United Artists, 1965. Very Good+
Titles include "Young Lovers", "Finale", "Love & Understanding", "The Battle", "Warpaint & Feathers", and "Solitary Waltz". LP, Vinyl record album

Angelo Lavagnino

Naked Maja
United Artists, 1959. Near Mint-
A compelling score from Angelo Lavagnino – one that features all the lush, romantic touches you'd know from his Italian work – but which also has plenty of Spanish inflections, too – all in support of the film's story of the painter Goya! There's definitely a sense of Hollywood ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elmer Bernstein/Shorty Rogers & His Giants

Man With The Golden Arm – Original Soundtrack
Decca, 1955. Very Good+
One of the greatest jazz soundtracks of all time! Elmer Bernstein wrote the score to Otto Preminger's chilling film version of Nelson Algren's book The Man With The Golden Arm – a sad tale of jazz, gambling, and heroin addiction on the streets of Chicago (not far from Dusty Groove, in fact!) ... LP, Vinyl record album

Brian May

Road Warrior
Varese, 1982. Near Mint-
Brian May's classic score to the first Road Warrior film – nicely lean compared to overblown modes to follow. No Tina Turner – but lots of great guitar work and orchestrations! LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1986. Very Good+
Iconic soundtrack to the 80s blockbuster, including "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin, and the "Top Gun Anthem" by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens. LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Budd

Wild Geese
A&M, 1978. Very Good+
Tightly-strung score for this forgotten war flick starring Roger Moore, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris. Budd does a nice job with the orchestra on this one, and most of the themes have a snappy militaristic style, in the vein of The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. Not as many jazzy ... Robert Morse & Charles Nelson Reilly

A Jolly Theatrical Season
Capitol, 1963. Very Good+
(Back cover has a tracklist sticker.) LP, Vinyl record album
