Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Nat Adderley

Autobiography
Atlantic (Japan), 1965. Used
A gem of a record from Nat Adderley – filled with short soulful groovers, and done with an upbeat vibe that rivals some of Cannonball's best of the 60s! Joe Zawinul handled the arrangements, so there's definitely a strong influence here from the Cannon group – and although the players ... CD

Nat Adderley

That's Nat
Savoy/Columbia (Japan), 1955. Used
A real smoker from a young Nat Adderley – a session that has the leader on cornet, working in a tight hardbop combo with Jerome Richardson on tenor and flute, Hank Jones on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums! The tracks are all nicely sharp-edge – that soulful ... CD
Columbia, 1959. Used
What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD

Joshua Redman

Moodswing
Warner, 1994. Used
A real breakout set from the young Joshua Redman – the kind of record that made some mighty big ripples in the jazz world at the time – and which ended up in more record collections than we can count – and for good reason, too! The group's a rock-solid quartet – with Redman ... CD
Blue Note, 1960. Used
A partner album of sorts to Jimmy Smith's classic Midnight Special album – recorded during the same sessions as that one, and also featuring Stanley Turrentine on tenor and Kenny Burrell on guitar! The sound here is almost even more open and stretched out – with only 4 long tracks on ... CD

Oscar Peterson

Night Train
Verve, 1962. Used
One of Oscar Peterson's biggest records ever – one of those albums we turn up time and time again when digging through classic jazz collections – and for good reason too, given the lasting power of the set! The album's got a rock-solid sound that's filled with soul – almost a bit ... CD
Impulse, 1961. Used
One of the all-time classics of early 60's mainstream jazz – and a beautiful record that showcases writing and arranging talents of Oliver Nelson! Nelson had been bumping around a variety of sessions before this one – as a leader, sideman, and arranger – but it was with this ... CD

Herbie Hancock

Gershwin's World
Verve, 1998. Used
Herbie Hancock opens up the Gershwin songbook in an album that features large orchestral backings and guest work by vocalist Kathleen Battle, James Carter, Chick Corea, Eddie Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and Stevie Wonder. CD
Black Sun, Early 60s. Used
A much-needed look at the early jazz years of Paul Horn – featuring tracks recorded for 3 different Columbia albums of the early 60s – all of them great! At the time, Horn had a free-thinking sound that was one of the most lyrical in US jazz – working on alto and flute with a ... CD
Impulse, 1997. Used
McCoy Tyner on piano, Greg Mraz on bass, and Al Foster on drums. CD

Branford Marsalis

Dark Keys
Columbia, 1996. Used
A trio date with Marsalis on tenor and soprano sax, Reginald Veal on bass, and Jeff 'Tain' Watts on drums – plus guest saxophone from Joe Lovano and Kenny Garrett. CD
20th Century, 1975. Used
Kind of a "greatest hit" of greatest hits compilations – a set that's probably sold more copies than any of Barry White's full length albums – thanks to a monstrous run of hits in the 70s! The package is overflowing with greatness – amazing tunes that balance funky ... CD
