Sounds & Songs

LP (Item 719119) Capitol, Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good
Part instrumental, part vocal harmonies – a group that does both pretty darn well!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Howard Roberts

Color Him Funky
Capitol, 1963. Very Good
Sweet soul jazz from Howard Roberts! The record's one of Roberts' great early efforts for Capitol – recorded with a tight soul jazz group that includes Paul Bryant on organ, Chuck Berghofer on bass, and Earl Palmer on drums. As usual with Roberts, the interplay between guitar and organ is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Price You Got To Pay To Be Free
Capitol, 1970. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Fantastic work from the massive electric years of the Cannonball Adderley Quintet – one of the group's last records to feature the keyboards of Joe Zawinul – and also one of the heaviest from the time! George Shearing

Shearing Bossa Nova
Capitol, 1962. Very Good
A heavenly album, and easily one of our favorite George Shearing records of the 60s – thanks to some sweet bossa arrangements by a young Clare Fischer! Fischer's got a better ear for this groove than just about anyone else – and he beautifully mixes light woodwinds with bossa rhythms ... LP, Vinyl record album

Howard Roberts

Spinning Wheel
Capitol, Late 60s. Sealed
One of the grooviest albums ever from the always-groovy guitarist Howard Roberts – thanks to some killer Capitol 60s production from David Axelrod! Capitol (Japan), 1966. Very Good+
A rare live set by Cannonball Adderley – unreleased in America at the time, and performed with the style of Cannon's best work for Riverside! Instrumental Classics
Capitol, Late 40s. Near Mint-
Nice Capitol album from the 50s, one that compiles instrumental sides by Nat King Cole and his tight little LA combo that forever changed the face of jazz and R&B. It's nice to hear Nat only on piano here – and backing by the great Oscar Moore on guitar is really a treat! Titles include ... LP, Vinyl record album

In Person
Capitol, 1968. Very Good
Almost everything soulful at Capitol Records in the mid 60s – packed together in one sweet little place! Columbia, 1971. Sealed
A masterful tribute from one bad cat to another – and easily one of Miles Davis' greatest electric albums ever! The album's got a powerful, epic sort of feel – a renewed focus after the looser style of Bitches Brew, and the 70s live albums – and one that mixes a deeper funky ... LP, Vinyl record album

Real Thing
Eastbound, 1973. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
