Wild Sound Of New Orleans

LP (Item 71813) RCA, 1958 — Condition: Sealed

Some of the earliest work ever recorded by New Orleans soul legend Allen Toussaint! The tunes are mostly instrumental – with Toussaint on piano, stomping up a storm with lots of wild playing in that heavy-handed, triplet-heavy 1950s New Orleans mode. The tracks romp along in a nice crescent city groove – not funky, but with that roots of funk sound that always makes work from this period hold up nicely. A really great blueprint for the magic to come from one of the great producer/arrangers of the century! Titles include "Bono", "Whirlaway", "Tim Tam", "Po Boy Walk", and "Nashua".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(80s UK pressing, on Edsel – sealed!)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Samba Soul

Samba Soul
RCA, Mid 70s. Very Good+
A classic 70s blend of American disco and Brazilian styles – maybe a precursor of the 90s bossa remix projects! The tracks are long and fast, and include medleys of "Girl From Ipanema/Manha De Carnaval" and "Chove Chuva/Mas Que Nada", as well as a few other Brazilian ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Castor Bunch

Phase Two
RCA, 1972. Sealed
Probably Jimmy's second best album of the 70s – one with many of the same elements as his legendary It's Just Begun record. The band is grooving hard – with plenty of heavy conga, fuzzed out guitar, and trippy grooves that serve as a perfect foil for Jimmy's super-dope sense of humor. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Coming Together
RCA, 1972. Good
Excellent early album by New Birth – with a good straight ahead soul style, and some nice arrangements by Vernon Bullock, Harvey Fuqua, and Bert De Coteaux.
