In Person At El Matador/Pele/Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things

CD (Item 716245) Atlantic/Collectables, Late 60s/1970s — Condition: Used
$7.99 ...

CD

3 different Sergio Mendes albums on 2 CDs! In Person At El Matador is a live one by Sergio Mendes, recorded with Wanda De Sah and Rosinha De Valenca, in the years before he formed the Brasil '66 group that recorded on A&M. The record's a nice batch of bossa jazz tracks – and it features some instrumentals with Sergio and a tight group, plus a few vocal tracks by the ladies. The set's got a nice groove, and is much more like Sergio's earlier bossa stuff that was on Capitol in the US, and Philips in Brazil. Tracks include "Tem Do De Mim", "Noa Noa", "Caminho De Casa", and "Arrastao". Hard to find in the original, and nice to have on reissue! Pele is a nice soundtrack that features Sergio Mendes' score to a film that starred football great Pele, made at the height of his career! The music's got the range of sounds that you'd expect from a soundtrack – with some mellow cuts, and some more uptempo ones, but the mix is great, and the sound is nice and Braziliany, with some good electric moments. Pele sings vocals on one version of the title cut "My World Is A Ball", and Gerry Mulligan solos on another version of it. Cuts include "Big City", "Sadness of Goodbye", and "Na Bahia". Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things is a very very groovy instrumental album by one of the giants of the bossa nova era! The album has Sergio Mendes in more of a jazz setting than his Brasil '66 LPs, with lots of nice electric grooves and keyboard lines, plus some driving orchestral backing. The set includes a stunning version of "Ponteio" – plus other Brazilian groovers like "A Banda", "Veleiro", and "Tempo Feliz". There's also a few tracks of U.S. pop stuff like "I Say a Little Prayer" and "Comin' Home Baby", done with a nice bossa groove to them. Dave Grusin did the arrangements, and the sound is nice nice nice! 34 cuts in all!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.
