Joy Of Living

LP (Item 715015) Capitol, Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
(Mid 80s French pressing on Pathe Marconi in a barcode cover.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Daybreak, 1973. Near Mint-
Tremendous stuff – an ultra-groovy 70s album from Nelson Riddle – with a sweet style that's very much like his two classics for MPS at the time! The songs are all Michel Legrand numbers – more than enough to entice our ears – and Riddle handles them with a nice mix of lush ... LP, Vinyl record album

Riddle Of Today
Liberty, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Groovy Nelson Riddle Now Sound stuff, and very different than his 50's Capitol recordings. Features some cool themes like "The Smothers Brothers Theme" and "Tarzan", plus "Hey, Girl", "Cortege", "Chestnut Trees", and "Sunshine Superman". LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmie's always been one of the overlooked greats of the arranging business – and he's got a hip style that we'd compare to that of Jack Nietzsche, another excellent LA arranger from the same generation. This set gives Jimmie some great material to work with – as it not only includes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie Gleason

Riff Jazz
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good+
We're not exactly sure what "riff jazz" is, but we can definitely say that the album's one of Jackie Gleason's jazziest from the 50s – a really hard-hitting affair that gets past the sleepier arrangements of other records, and makes great use of breakout solo work from Jimmy ... Les Baxter

Confetti
Capitol, 1958. Very Good+
A groovy Les Baxter album from the pre-exotica years – a set that showcases all the lively, jaunty styles that Les brought to his initial instrumental run on Capitol Records! The mix of sounds is as colorful as the title might imply – some Latin modes, wordless vocal passages, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie Gleason

Lonesome Echo
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good+
A fantastic album – if only for the cover! The record features a rare cover image that's an obscure painting by Salvador Dali – and the back cover features a photo of Jackie and Dali shaking hands! The music's not as surreal as the image, but it's still got this amazingly baroque ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1958. Very Good+
Les Baxter conducts a set of string-laden ballads with a sweet dreamy feel. Titles include "Dawn On the City", "Rush Hour Romance", "Afternoon Affair", and "Hot Summer Night". And despite the fact that this stuff's not his exotic material, Les still wrote a ... LP, Vinyl record album
