Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Erroll Garner

Ready – Take One
Columbia, 1967/1969/1971. Used
Never-heard music from the legendary Erroll Garner – unissued studio recordings from the end of the 60s and the start of the 70s – brought together here to form one of the most striking albums in his catalog! Garner's perhaps a bit more intimate in these settings, and is certainly more ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, Late 40s/Early 50s. Used
Beautiful early material by Erroll Garner – sides recorded at the end of the 40s, when he was really hitting his rhythmic stride! The tunes bristle with an approach to the material that's filled with life – as Garner seems to sense a rhythm where there might not necessarily be one ... CD

Quincy Jones/Astrud Gilberto

Pawnbroker/Deadly Affair
Mercury/Verve, 1965/1966. Used
2 of Quincy Jones' groundbreaking 60s soundtracks on one CD! The material here isn't funky like his 70's work, and shows Quincy more in a dark brooding thriller vein. The Pawnbroker score has an orchestra filled with great jazz players like Freddie Hubbard, Anthony Ortega, Oliver Nelson, Elvin ... CD

Gigi Gryce

Reminiscin'
Mercury (Japan), 1960. Used
A great lost date from the wonderful Gigi Gryce – a set that features the altoist in an sextet, but often swinging with a looser vibe than on some of his better-known albums from the 50s! There's a mix of soulful and modern here that's not unlike the Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet – ... CD
Keynote/Mercury, 1944. Used 4 CDs

Benny Golson

Turning Point/Free
Mercury/Universal (Germany), 1962. Used
Two albums that really show why we love Benny Golson so much! Turning Point is an incredible, and oft-overlooked album from the great Benny Golson – and one of the few early albums that really point the way to his huge run of work for decades to come! The style here is a bit looser, and ... CD

With Jimmy Owens on trumpet, Dave Liebman and Lance Bryant on soprano sax, Ricky Ford on tenor, and George Cables on piano! CD

Billy Cobham

Spectrum
Atlantic/Rhino, 1973. Used
A very full-on hard heavy fusion album! Drummer Billy Cobham lays down some massive hard beats, while Tommy Bolin wails away on guitar, Jan Hammer pounds on electric piano, and Lee Sklar noodles on electric bass. 2 cuts feature a different lineup with Joe Farrell and Jimmy Owens – but the ... CD

Thelonious Monk Quartet With John Coltrane At Carnegie Hall
Blue Note, 1957. Used

Prestige/OJC, 1968. Used
Fantastic! This is one of Sonny Criss' masterworks, and an amazing tribute to the LA jazz underground of the 60's! Horace Tapscott composed and arranged all of the tracks on here, and they form a beautiful, soulful, suite that gives Criss a perfect backdrop for his meaningful solos. The work is ... CD
