(80s issue. Cover has a small piece of tape on back.)
Near Mint - (minus)
Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Earl Hines has a very cool trio here – a unique group that features Richard Davis on bass and Elvin Jones on drums – both younger modern players who provide a surprising match for his lead work on piano! Hines really seems to step up to the setting, and although his phrasing and tone ... LP, Vinyl record album
Jaki Byard brings plenty to the table here – playing both tenor and alto sax, in addition to his usual piano – and showing once again that he's not just a multi-instrumentalist, but also one of the most multi-voiced talents in jazz! Byard seems to bring a similar spirit of multiplicity ... LP, Vinyl record album
Martino plays in a 2-guitar quartet – with Bobby Rose backing him up on guitar, plus rhythm accompaniment by Richard Davis and Billy Higgins. The sound's definitely in the trippier, post-hippie style of Martino's work, with a sort of looseness and fluidity that you either love or hate, but a ... LP, Vinyl record album
The title's an apt one, as the set's a great batch of back-to-basics work from Larry Coryell – a player who first started out bold and strong in the 60s, and never really had a time to lay back in a more relaxed set like this! There's still a spacious approach that really marks the Coryell ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the last great albums that Hank Mobley ever cut! Although Mobley's 70s output was nothing compared to his 60s Blue Note work, this 1972 session for Cobblestone/Muse is a winner, and features the aging tenorist co-leading a crack quintet with Cedar Walton, and featuring Billy Higgins, Sam ... A seminal set from the under-recorded Dailey – mostly a trio date with Rufus Reid on bass and Eddie Gladden on drums – but also featuring Arthur Rhames on tenor on one track. Titles include "Pogo", "Textures", "Dailey Bread", and "The Dues We Have To ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic Chicago avant garde jazz, recorded at Peace Church New York by Ornette Coleman in 1970, and featuring Leroy Jenkins, Anthony Braxton, Leo Smith, Richard Davis, Steve McCall, and Muhal Richard Abrams. The whole LP's one long track called "No More White Gloves", and the sound is a ... LP, Vinyl record album
An 80s issue of amazing early work from the hip team of Tony Scott and Bill Evans – Scott blowing modernist clarinet, with great piano from Bill – and rhythm from Jimmy Garrison on bass and Pete LaRoca on drums. Titles include "Garrison's Raiders", "Stella By ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantabuloso! Crusader Wilton Felder lays down a whole batch of groovy tracks, including the theme from the movie Bullitt. The whole album is very swingin and jazzy, but with as good of an edge as any Lalo Schifrin album from the time, and almost as great as the Bullitt soundtrack! Tracks include ...
