Lennie Tristano

LP (Item 6928) Atlantic, 1955 — Condition: Very Good-

Darkly imaginative work from the great Lennie Tristano – and one of the few full albums he ever cut as a leader! The record features the incredible track "Turkish Mambo" – which has Tristano overdubbed 3 times in this dark modal way that's totally amazing, and which will hook you into his playing immediately! A number of other tracks feature a quartet with Lee Konitz – always a good match for Tristano – and a few others have a great trio that's completed by Peter Ind and Jeff Morton. Tracks include "Requiem", "East 32nd", "You Go To My Head", and "Line Up".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label "Long Playing Unbreakable" pressing with deep groove. Cover has some stains and writing in pen on back.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Surprises
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
A record that's full of many surprises – one of which is the sweet lead vocals of Cissy Houston! We're All Together Again For The First Time
Atlantic, 1973. Near Mint-
Kind of a meeting of two different generations of Dave Brubeck – as the group here features Paul Desmond's alto sax, a key force in Dave's early recordings – and the baritone sax of Gerry Mulligan, a player who'd worked often with Brubeck in the late 60s and early 70s! Be Bop
Atlantic/East West, 1988. Near Mint-
A surprisingly great record from Milt Jackson – and we're saying that after being plenty darn suspicious about a record titled Be Bop recorded in the late 80s!
