This Beat Is Mine (voc, inst)

12-inch (Item 69268) SAM, 1981 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

12-inch, Vinyl record

The beat is definitely Vicki's – even though the groove reminds us a fair bit of the Evelyn Champagne King song "I'm In Love"! But we can hardly complain about any sort of copycat soul – because Vicki's tune is plenty darn great too – lots of great 80s groove keyboards under the vocals, and a great crossover hook that just won't quit! We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brunswick, 1979. Very Good-
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Capitol, 1982. Very Good
One of George Clinton's biggest hits – and probably his last gasp on the charts in a major way. The cut's a logical extension of late 70s P-Funk – with more of the bass-popping 80s grooves and electro touches that Clinton had inspired in so many other funky groups at the time. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Boogie Wonderland (voc, inst)
Columbia, Late 70s. Very Good (pic cover)
"Boogie Wonderland" was EWF's biiiiiig jammer with vocals by The Emotions – a huge hit for years, both on radio and the dancefloors! Nice here in an instrumental version too! 12-inch, Vinyl record
TK, 1977. Very Good-
Hit work from the legendary Peter Brown – a key player in far more club sides than we can remember, but a real chart-topper with this one! You may know the a-side, which is offered here in a nice long take with a drum break in the middle – but don't miss "Burning Love", which ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Rhythmic (UK), 1985. Very Good- (pic cover)
A crossover electro-era groover in the best Kraftwerk mode – one of those European imports that somehow managed to crack the US dancefloors strongly in the Danceteria days. Vocals are a bit cold, but in a good way – one that works with all the electro beats and keys! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sutra, 1982. Very Good
A wicked little track that's a real classic from the electro years – a tune that vamps along with great bass and keyboards, but which also features some soulful vocals over the top alongside the electronics! The tune's got a hook that just won't quit – and a groove that's perfect for a ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

An early Madonna single, with a nice Niles Rodgers remix on the a-side. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Uno Melodic, 1980. Near Mint-
A classic club track by this Roy Ayers side project – presented here on an original Uno Melodic 12" single! Roy wrote the track with Edwin Birdsong, and it's got a lot of nice popping and quirky funk bits, similar to Edwin's "Rapper Dapper Snapper", of the same vintage. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Motown, 1986. Very Good+ (pic cover)
At the time this was issued, these tracks had not yet been released, though they've subsequently shown up on a number of the expanded CD reissues that have been put out since this release. Sadly, the totally burning funk of "The World Is Rated X" gets buried a bit in the bad 80s ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Virgin, 1988. Very Good
4 mixes of this classic bit of Detroit Techno – going over the top, into the mainstream, thanks to the lasting genius of Kevin Saunderson! 12-inch, Vinyl record
A&M, 1989. Near Mint- (pic cover)
Off the Rhythm Nation LP, remixed by Shep Pettibone. 12-inch, Vinyl record
