III

LP (Item 688342) MCA, 2000 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP

(Promo in a stickered sleeve.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Isaac Hayes

Shaft
Enterprise, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A landmark album that hardly needs any introduction – as it's one of the most famous soundtracks, if not soul records, of the 70s! Heatwave

Central Heating
Epic, 1978. Very Good+
The second album by Heatwave – and a great effort that's almost as perfectly sublime as the first! Lou Rawls

Tobacco Road
Capitol, 1963. Very Good+
A real breakthrough for Lou – a set that again paired him with arranger Onzy Matthews, and which even more deeply explored the unique space between jazz, soul, and the blues that became Rawls' prime territory back in the 60s! Matthews' backings are hip and jazzy throughout – filled ... LP, Vinyl record album

King Curtis

Doing The Dixie Twist
Tru Sound/Prestige, Early 60s. Very Good+
Quite a groovy early album from King Curtis – one that's got a strange little gimmick, but one that works wonderfully! The "dixie twist" theme means that King's taking older standards associated with the south, and playing them in a fast-crackling, highly rhythmic style that has ... LP, Vinyl record album

Woody Herman

Heavy Exposure
Cadet, 1969. Very Good
Excellent stuff – a record that we love it to death, and listen to all the time! Woody Herman's band meets the soulful arrangements of Richard Evans, and the whole thing cooks nicely in the Chess studios in Chicago. The result is a tasty blend of soulful big band tracks, with a strident ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yes

Atco, 1983. Near Mint-
An album of surprising brilliance – recorded late in the career of Yes, but one of the group's biggest hits ever! Blank Generation
Sire, 1977. Near Mint-
Sublime sneering work from the great Richard Hell – a key album in the evolution of punk on the US scene!
