ABC-Paramount Years

CD (Item 686795) Koch, 1997 — Condition: Used
$11.99 ...

CD

We love Jackie & Roy! This hip swinging husband/wife team are one of the high spots in the history of jazz vocals, and until now, most of their ABC recordings from the 50's have been damn hard to find. Now, this cool 16 track set brings together some of their best moments on ABC. The tracks are a nice mixture of goofy/groovy stuff, jazzy vocalese, and even a few nice ballads by Jackie. The arrangements are impeccable, and the instrumentation is by a host of great west coast players. Titles include "Say Cheese", "Have You Met Miss Jones?", "The Glory Of Love", "The Winter of My Discontent", "Could You Use Me?", and "I Love You Real".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

One of the first albums ever from the team of Jackie Caine and Roy Kral – and one of the best, too! The album's got a relaxed, open-ended approach to jazz vocals that already carries all the hallmarks of the Jackie & Roy style – wordless scatting on some tunes, playful lyrical ... CD

Close Your Eyes
Blue Note, 1995. Used
We want to hate this guy! Why? Well, because years ago, when he was still just a divinity grad student at the University of Chicago, we used to catch him sitting in on sessions all over the south side. At the time, his vocal stylings used to make us wince – but those years in the trenches ... CD

Mark Murphy

Once To Every Heart
Verve, 2005. Used
Easily the greatest album that vocalist Mark Murphy has recorded in years – and a surprising departure from a lot of his recent work! Murphy did the album in collaboration with German trumpeter Til Bronner – a player we mostly know for his own smoothly soulful, and often-grooving ... CD
Bethlehem, 1956. Used
An album as incredible as its bulls-eye cover – the first record ever from a young Bob Dorough – and easily one of his most swinging sessions! The style here is a bit straighter jazz than on some of Bob's later work – vocalese inspired by Jon Hendricks, King Pleasure, Eddie ... CD

Mister B & The Band
Savoy/Nippon (Japan), 1945/1946. Used
Amazing work from the early, legendary years of Billy Eckstine – that time when he was fronting one of the hippest backing groups a vocalist could hope to have! Eckstine's voice was already becoming the stuff of legend by the time of these recordings – but thanks to contributions from ... CD
Plastic (Italy), Late 60s. Used
Totally cool CD on Plastic, and in a very similar mode to some of the other great Italian comps of funky music – like Stroboscopia, Mo' Plen, and Easy Tempo.
