Larry Coryell/Alphonse Mouzon — Back Together Again ... CD 10.99

A famous set of crossover fusion – one with lots of heavy drums from Alphonse Mouzon, and plenty of sweet guitar from Larry Coryell! This set definitely plays to the rockish side of the fusion crowd, but still has some funky undercurrents too – thanks to lots of bold lines from Cobham, who could easily sit on both sides of the fence at this point in his career! The rest of the group is equally tight, too – and includes the great John Lee on bass, who really keeps things deep, plus Philip Catherine on additional guitar, sometimes acoustic. Mouzon sings on the cut "Reconciliation", but all others are instrumental – and titles include "The Phonse", "Transvested Express", "Rock N Roll Lovers", "High Love", "Mr C", "Get On Up", and "Beneath The Earth".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Ornette Coleman

Art Of The Improvisers
Atlantic, Early 60s. Used
Great lost work from Ornette Coleman – material recorded in New York and LA during the years 1959 through 1961 – never issued at the time, but pulled together in this wonderful package at the start of the 70s! Although not recorded as an official album, the record stands easily with ... CD

David Newman

House Of David
Atlantic (Japan), 1967. Used
One of David Newman's grooviest albums of the 60s – a stripped-down set that features a quartet with Hammond and guitar – all in a vibe that's a bit more relaxed than some of Newman's other sessions for Atlantic! There's a gritty edge to the record – with organ by the obscure ... CD

Atlantic, 1988. Used
Gerald Albright on alto and tenor saxophone, flute, and synthesizers – with Paul Jackson on guitar, Bobby Lyle on piano and synths, and Harvey Mason on drums. CD

John Coltrane

My Favorite Things
Atlantic, 1961. Used
Wonderful wonderful wonderful work from the legendary John Coltrane – and even though it's probably one of his best-selling albums of all time, it's still a treasure – and has an essential place in just about any jazz collection! We've heard the original title version of "My ... CD
Atlantic, 1992. Used
A really nice surprise from guitarist Mike Stern – a set that definitely delivers the standards promised in the title, and also creates a new sort of classic sound for Stern's guitar! Mike still plays with some chromatic modes that have that wider, arier sound of the guitar – but other ... CD

Metaphysics – The Lost Atlantic Album
Atlantic/Omnivore, 1965. Used
A lost jazz treasure from one of the most enigmatic pianists of the 60s – the legendary Hasaan, who recorded famously with Max Roach on Atlantic Records, but who also left behind this rare session that's never seen the light of day until now! Hasaan hails from Philly, where he was a player ... CD

Atlantic, 1960. Used
One of the best early albums cut by John Lewis as a leader – a set that's a fair bit different than John's work with the Modern Jazz Quartet – thanks to strong guest appearances from players who include Paul Gonsalves and Benny Golson on tenor sax, Eric Dolphy on alto, Jim Hall on ... CD
Atlantic (Japan), 1977. Used
Important 70s work from Don Cherry – one of the first albums to bring his overseas experiments to a larger US audience! The set builds nicely off of styles that Don forged earlier in France and Scandinavia – a freer style of music than his work with Ornette Coleman, and a richly ... CD

Dizzy Gillespie

Havin' A Good Time In Paris
Inner City, 1952. Used
Dizzy Gillespie plays here with the great Don Byas on tenor sax – joining Diz on two different Parisian dates from early 1952, both of them pretty darn sweet! The first session here is quite unusual – in that it features Humberto Cano on congas – bringing in a bit of a Cubop ... CD

Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, & Bob Brookmeyer

Stretching Out
United Artists/Universal (Japan), 1958. Used
A very well-titled album – as it definitely features Zoot Sims and Al Cohn stretching out – pushing their groove a bit more than on some of their tightly-composed mid 50s sessions for RCA! The lineup is still slightly large – an octet that features Zoot and Al on tenor, plus the ... CD
