$2.99 ...

CD

Funky soul from The Revelations and lead vocalist Tre Williams – a deeply soulful set that's a great mix of classic soul and funk influences, but hardly a throwback – actually quite a timeless, live band soul set! Some of the tunes feel like a modern spin on Hi Records style soul, with punchy horns, soulful guitar licks, solid drums and bass, and groovy keys – but it feels sharply of the here and now. Williams' vocals are a soulful and real, and the songs, co-written by hip hop veteran Rell Gaddis and top notch, all the way. The Revelations are the real thing! Titles include "Stay Free", "Graceful Bow", "The Truth Shall Set You Free", "Let's Straighten It Out", "How Do I Tell Them", "Because Of You", 'It's Too Late", "Remember The Last Time", "I Won't Let Go", "He's A Hustler" and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Interscope, 2016. Used
A set that arguably has even more majesty than the debut album from Michael Kiwanuka – and that's saying a lot, given the strength of that now-classic record! Production here is by Dangermouse, Inflo, and Paul Butler – and there's an airiness to some songs that really has Kiwanuka's ... CD

Let's Do It Again
Shanachie, 2009. Used
The title's an apt one – as Leela James "does it again", by reprising a host of classic soul songs from the 60s and 70s! The sound of the album's somewhat contemporary – very much in the spirit of Leela's other work – but the tunes are all familiar classics, performed ... CD

What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD
