Truth Is On Its Way

LP (Item 6785) Right On, 1971 — Condition: Very Good

Nikki G in total righteousness, surrounded by a big choir, and dropping knowledge on cuts like "Great Pax Whitey", "Poem For Aretha", and "Ego Tripping". Very spiritual stuff, with backing vocals by the New York Community Choir, who also recorded a great soul album on RCA around the same time – and an overall approach that elevates Nikki's poetry into a very spiritual realm!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light staining and a name in marker.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

Rufusized
ABC, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Funk, soul, jazz, and plenty more – all wrapped up into this 70s masterpiece from Rufus – the kind of record that not only never gets old, but which still has folks wondering how the group could have gotten things this perfect all these many years later! Chaka Khan and the group are in ... LP, Vinyl record album
Scepter, Early 70s. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Although this one looks like a greatest hits set, it's actually a live show that features Dionne running through most of her big Bacharach hits during the Scepter years. The set features impersonations by Dionne on tracks like "Baby Love", "Bill Bailey", and "Falling In ... LP, Vinyl record album
Savoy, 1950s. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
2LP set that brings together early R&B sides recorded for the Savoy label – not really rock and roll as the title might imply, but a good set of cuts that's sort of an overview of the label's classic hits in the pre-soul universe! Includes the sublime "Bad Boy" by The Jive ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

In Square Circle
Tamla, 1985. Very Good Gatefold
Mid 80s, and while never that bad (nothing Stevie does is ever terrible – well, except for "Don't Drive Drunk"!), the record lacks that certain greatness that you'll find on even the lesser Stevie Wonder albums. Titles include "Stranger On The Shore Of Love", "Spiritu ... LP, Vinyl record album

Earth Wind & Fire

Powerlight
Columbia, 1983. Very Good
The Powerlight is burning bright – Maurice White, Philip Bailey, and the rest of the group still very much in classic formation! Even on a post-70s set like this, Earth Wind & Fire still manage to come up with tracks that beat the rest of the ensemble funk groups that grew up in their ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swordsmen

Swordsmen
RCA, 1969. Sealed
A fantastic album of obscure soul! The group features the duo of Eddie Anderson and Ray Thompson – trading vocal duets in a pointed, fragile, southern-sounding style. The Swordsmen were discovered by Nina Simone, and record here on the Stroud Enterprises imprint, which was handling some of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Epic, 1974. Very Good-
An insanely wonderful album! Shuggie Otis is the son of Johnny Otis – the LA R&B maestro who was moving heavily into funk at the end of the 60s – and he has this tripped out, super-dope guitar style that he played to strong effect on Johnny's albums of the late 60s and early 70s, ... Sylvers

Sylvers
Pride, 1972. Very Good
The first album by The Sylvers – a soulful band made up of youngsters from the Los Angeles scene, but who had a lot more going on than some of the other kiddie-soul bands of the early 70s! The group's a sextet at this point, with four male voices and two female ones – coming across as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ben Sidran

I Lead A Life
Blue Thumb, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
Wonderful early work from Ben Sidran! The album's got a hip jazzy vocal style – similar to some of the best late 60s work by Bob Dorough or Dave Frishberg, but also with New Orleans touches – as in the work of Mose Allison or Dr John! Sidran brings in a smoother, groovier feel than ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Thumb, 1972. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Strange compilation focusing on a bunch of San Francisco rock and funk groups produced by Abe "Voco" Kesh.
