A lesser-known indie session by the great Gato Barbieri – a set recorded for Fania after Gato's dates for bigger labels in the 70s, but one that's done with a really full, professional sound overall! There's a fair bit of electric instrumentation in the mix – guitars from Joe Beck, David Spinozza, and Ryo Kawasaki, plus some Fender Rhodes as well – but the sound is never too slick or commercial, thanks to a production approach that largely keeps the players at a warm, spontaneous level. Teo Macero helped on production – which is possibly part of the album's success – and titles include "Alma", "Mowgli", "Playtime", "Memories", and "Retorno". © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
