This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
One of trumpeter Buck Clayton's true classics for Columbia in the 50s – long jam session tracks, with players who include Bennie Green and Tyree Glenn on trombones, Lem Davis on alto, Julian Dash and Coleman Hawkins on tenor, and Kenn Kersey and Sir Charles Thompson on piano. LP, Vinyl record album
A heavy classic from trumpeter Buck Clayton – and a record that set a whole new standard for the jam session on record at the time! The album pushes forward strongly from the territory of the Jazz At The Philharmonic and Jam Session records on Verve – with a vibrancy that's even ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sublime work from Yusef Lateef – and proof that he could be exotic and swinging at the same time! The three "faces" of the set are Lateef's work on tenor, flute, and oboe – each of which get a few tracks to themselves – as Lateef works with a core Detroit group of Hugh ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic set to feature the Bill Evans Trio with the great Scott Lafaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums! Listening to the set we're reminded of what always brings us back to Evans' playing – a quality that's often described as moody, but which is really is quite spry and lively throughout ... LP, Vinyl record album
An unusual set that prefaces Charlie's recordings for Columbia – a trio side that also adds in chorus vocals on a number of cuts, creating a nice warm pillowy backdrop that's a perfect juxtaposition to Charlie's spare and raspy sound on the acoustic guitar. And just because we use "pillo ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful stripped-down set of piano work from Duke Ellington – presented here in an obscure set of duets recorded with Billy Strayhorn in 1950, finally issued as a full package by Riverside in the mid 60s – at a time when more folks seemed to be paying attention to Duke's stylings on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wes Montgomery with a bit of sax and flute – a nice change from the sound of some of his other early records, thanks to key work on the set from James Clay! Clay plays mostly flute on the record, but does so with a hard edge that reminds us of Frank Wess' work from the same stretch – ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the more ambitious records ever cut by guitarist Charlie Byrd – a set that begins with a side-long suite of tracks – the "Blue Sonata", which features Byrd playing in a much more complex way than usual! The sonata features three parts, all composed by Byrd, and Charlie ... LP, Vinyl record album
A pretty darn important album for Wes – as it was his first session with the sort of larger arrangements that would later make him huge! Although Montgomery was mostly recording for Riverside in small combos, this session has him playing in front of larger backings by Jimmy Jones – not ... LP, Vinyl record album
An interesting issue of earlier small group material from some Duke Ellington sidemen in a few different settings – most led by trumpeter Rex Stewart, and featuring Lawrence Brown on trombone, Barney Bigard on clarinet, Joe Thomas on trumpet, Ted Nash on tenor, and Harry Carney on baritone. ...
