Blues Classics By Sonny Boy Williamson

LP (Item 670355) Blues Classics, Late 30s/Early 40s — Condition: Near Mint-

Features Charlie McCoy, Big Bill Broonzy, and Big Joe Williams on guitar – and Walter Davis on piano!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Blues Of Sonny Boy Williamson
Storyville (Denmark), 1963. Near Mint-
The legendary Sonny Boy Williamson, recorded in Copenhagen in the early 60s – but at a level that's still strongly respectful of all the work he'd done in the US – maybe even more so, given the rootsy feel of the whole record! The group is small, and Sonny's vocals and harmonica are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bummer Road
Chess, 1957/1958/1960. Very Good+
No bummer here, as the set's a really great one – filled with late 50s Chess Records sides by Sonny Boy Williamson – a number of which are previously unissued! The package does a great job of reviving this material for a newly-informed blues audience of the modern age – giving ... LP, Vinyl record album

One Way Out
Chess, Late 50s/Early 60s. Very Good-
A great little collection of work that Sonny Boy Williamson recorded for Chess in the 50s and early 60s – presented here as one of the well-done archival packages that Chess was doing in the early 70s, as interest in their classics was coming back again. Most of the numbers here feature ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fathers & Sons
Chess, 1969. Sealed 2LP Gatefold
One of the biggest albums of Muddy Waters' career – a key crossover effort that has Waters as the "father" working with "sons" Paul Butterfield and Michael Bloomfield! The style here is still quite rootsy overall – and the double-length session features one album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Taj Mahal

Natch'l Blues
Columbia, 1968. Very Good+
A great title for this second set from Taj Mahal – because the sound here is even more stripped-down and natural than on his first LP! Howlin Wolf

More Real Folk Blues
Chess, 1967. Very Good-
A much earlier set of tracks than the first volume of Real Folk Blues from Howlin Wolf – mostly material recorded in the mid 50s, both in Chicago and Memphis – all with a really nitty gritty sort of feel! There's a rough and rootsy mode going on here – one that has Wolf's raspy ... LP, Vinyl record album
