Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Harmless (UK), Early 70s. Used
An outstanding compilation that should do for African funk what the Nu Yorica set did for Latin grooves. Harmless have put together a double-length set of 13 rare hard cuts from the 70's, including many classics that you might know, but which sound superb in this tight setting. With "Hail ... CD
Sterns (UK), Late 40s/1950s. Used
Classic work by The Manhattan Brothers – a South African vocal quartet who drew heavily on modes from American groups like the Ink Spots or Mills Brothers, but who also managed to translate that sound into an important force in African pop! The recordings here are pulled from a host of older ... CD

Luaka Bop/Warner, 1995. Used
A great collection of tracks – and one of the first chance for most of us to hear the funkier side of sounds from Peru! The work isn't as full-on funky as Brazilian grooves from the time, but does share a very strong influence from American styles – and really goes way past any cliches ... CD
Now Again, 1975. Used
Searing sounds from 70s Zambia – from one of the hippest, funkiest, most sharp-edged groups on the scene! This sweet little set may well be the best album ever from Musi O Tunya – a perfect fusion of funky roots with lots of Afro Soul touches, and a wicked approach to the guitar that ... CD

Bombay Disco 2
Cultures Of Soul, 1980s. Used
Bombay grooves, but not just the disco promised in the title – as these cuts come mostly from the 80s years of Bollywood, and show Indian funk moving into a great new realm of styles! There's definitely a disco vibe at the core – and as in other scenes, the style stayed current a lot ... CD
Outcaste (UK), 1970s. Used
Funky tracks from Indian films! The collection's the best so far of similar sets on the market – like Doob Doob O Rama or Bombay The Hard Way – and the tracks are really really funky, not just novelties from an out of the way source. The liner notes are a bit scarce, but we can ... CD

Fela & Africa 70

Confusion/Gentleman
Barclay/MCA, Early/Mid 70s. Used
Really mindblowing work from Fela – a seminal 70s set that may well open up even more than any other album from the time – as the leader and Africa 70 stretch out on a single track that takes up the entire record! "Confusion" is almost proggish at the start – with a ... CD
Buda (France), 1973. Used
Volume 6 of the fantastic Ethiopiques series is an expanded re-issue of the first lp by Mahmoud Ahmed plus his first single from 1971. While not as clearly influenced by American soul and jazz, there are a few funky cuts that are pretty nice! Most of these songs flow with a groove unique to ... CD

Philly Joe Jones

Mo' Joe
Black Lion (UK), 1968. Used
A killer session that matches the talents of American drum genius Philly Joe Jones with some of the leading lights in British jazz! The set was recorded in London in 1968, at that perfect moment when the Brit jazz scene was turning towards new ideas of modernism, but hadn't yet strayed too far ... CD
