Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bridge
RCA, 1962. Near Mint-
A landmark album from Sonny Rollins – one that marked his comeback in the early 60s, after a brief period of retirement, and which also initiated a string of incredible recordings with guitarist Jim Hall. Given Hall's gentleness and spare modernity on the guitar, a fan of Rollins' hard-blowin ... LP, Vinyl record album

An obscure 50s session from bassist Aaron Bell – one of the player's few dates as a leader, cut at a time when he was working in Duke Ellington's group of the decade! As with some of Duke's other bassists, Bell's got a strongly pronounced tone – one that came through great in big group ... LP, Vinyl record album
Country Roads & Other Places
RCA, 1969. Very Good
Hardly the kind of country roads you'd find traveled by other musicians – as Gary Burton's sound here is incredibly fresh – still as groundbreaking now as it was back in the 60s! The title might be a reference to Burton's Nashville roots, and the music does have a slightly pastoral ... LP, Vinyl record album

Basses Loaded!
RCA, 1955. Very Good+
Three jazz bassists, all coming together in a set that sparkles with that great RCA arranging style of the mid 50s! Charts are by Al Cohn, Billy Byers, and Manny Albam – and other players include Cohn on tenor, Hal McKusick on alto and soprano sax, Barry Galbraith on guitar, and Joe Newman ... Tales of A Courtesan (Oirantan)
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
The title's compelling – and kind of makes you think that this might be one of the pair's more avant-leaning albums – but the overall groove is heavy big band swing, in the manner that Tabackin and Akiyoshi did best together. The record features 6 longish tracks, all with a strong ... LP, Vinyl record album

X/RCA, Mid 50s. Very Good+
Very hip work from Red Norvo and his sextet – an evocative album that's divided up into "rose" and "blue" cover images on the front and back – but which unfortunately doesn't provide any data on the players! We can say that in addition to sharp vibes from Red, the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mobius
RCA, 1975. Very Good+
A real revelation from pianist Cedar Walton – an unusual electric album from the 70s – quite a surprise, given the mostly-acoustic sound of most of Cedar's other records!
