Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

EmArcy/Verve, Late 50s. Used
An excellent batch of soulful bop tracks – recorded as Nat's first – and featuring a group that includes brother Cannonball, plus Horace Silver, Roy Haynes, and Paul Chambers. The set's got a lot more fire than some of Nat's recordings from a few years later, probably because of the ... CD

Audio Fidelity/Fresh Sound (Spain), 1957. Used
Wonderful lost work from the great Benny Golson – and some of the hippest jazz you can find in a large format group! Golson's at his modernist best here, and he's leading a tentet that includes Eric Dolphy on alto, Wayne Shorter on tenor, Grachan Moncur on trombone, Freddie Hubbard on ... CD

Quartet – Russ Freeman & Chet Baker
Pacific Jazz, 1956. Used
A great no-nonsense session from Chet – blowing here with Russ Freeman on piano, blocking out backgrounds that work perfectly with the fragile tone of Chet's horn. The rest of the group is completed by Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Shelly Manne on drums – and the tracks are simple and ... CD
Blue Mode
Blue Note, 1969. Used
Heavy funk from the mighty Reuben Wilson – one of his first few albums for Blue Note, and a solid soulful groover that's right up there with Lou Donaldson's work for the label at the time! Tracks are nice and long, and pretty open – often with that kicking drum sound at the bottom that ... CD
Tribute To Blackwell
Black Saint (Italy), 1990. Used
A tribute to Ed Blackwell, and one that features the legendary drummer himself – as part of the excellent Old & New Dreams from the 80s! The work was recorded during a Blackwell tribute festival in 1987 – and the group features Don Cherry on trumpet, Dewey Redman on tenor, and ... CD

Blue Note, 1961. Used
One of our favorite albums ever from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers – but a set that was unreleased by Blue Note for quite a few years! The set's one of two gems the group recorded in 1961, but which were held back until the end of the 60s – and it features a stellar version of the ... CD
Bad Bascomb!
Delmark, Early 50s. Used
A tremendous tribute to the tenor talents of Paul Bascomb – pulled together here from rare 78rpm sides for United Records – including more than a few that were never issued at the time! Bascomb's got a rich and soulful tone – easily one of the best of the postwar generation, even ... CD
Mercury/Universal (UK), 1978. Used
