Benny Goodman Presents Arrangements By Fletcher Henderson

LP (Item 665527) Columbia, Late 30s/Early 40s — Condition: Near Mint-
Conducted by Eugene Ormandy, with sidemen that include Les Robinson, Billy Butterfield, Cootie Williams, Slam Stewart, and Nick Fatool.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

James Blood Ulmer

Odyssey
Columbia, 1983. Near Mint-
One of our favorite Ulmer records, probably because there's a nice groove running underneath most of the numbers, in a sort of post-Prime Time 80s out-funk sort of way. It never drops into a flat out back beat, but there's always some sense of time, while Ulmer's guitar and Charles Burnham's ... LP, Vinyl record album

McCoy Tyner (with Phyllis Hyman)

Looking Out
Columbia, 1982. Very Good+
An 80s album by McCoy Tyner, but easily one of his most soulful sessions ever – thanks to help from Phyllis Hyman and a host of great guest stars! The sound's a bit more tightly arranged than some of Tyner's 70s sessions, but there's still plenty of fire here too – a bit of a Latin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tom Scott

Apple Juice
Columbia, 1981. Very Good+
Tom Scott gets his apple juiced in this sweet live set – a concert performance from the early 80s, and a record that's got a sharper edge than some of Scott's studio work of the time! Arthur Blythe

Illusions
Columbia, 1980. Near Mint-
Maybe the boldest of Arthur Blythe's albums for Columbia Records – as the set bristles with newly creative energy right from the start, and provides a great showcase for some of the criss-crossings of styles and rhythms that were taking place on the New York scene at the time! The lineup ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sextant
Columbia, 1973. Very Good+
An incredible record – and virtually the blueprint for countless other keyboard records to come!
