Algo De Locura (remastered edition)

CD (Item 665259) Fania, 1971 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

The third LP from supremo salsa combo Sonora Poncena under Papo Lucca's direction and a wonderful early production effort from the great Larry Harlow, to boot! Algo De Locura is a great record that's been overlooked for decades and it sounds as great to us as their earlier couple of albums – up therewith their best Fania recordings of the decade. It's a wide range of material, from a heavy brass and percussion heat to a slower cooking, more meditative approach, passionate lead and chorus vocals, and the incredible leadership & instrumental genius of Papo. Includes "Acere Ko", "Toto El Mundo Escucha", "Cenizas", "Ingrato Corazon", "Yemaya", "Nobleza". "Pa' Los Poncenos", "Chanflin" and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

An unusual self-produced effort from Hector Lavoe – but a record that's every bit as strong as his other solo records from the time! Of course, Hector's got some big help on the record from Louie Ramirez and Jose Febles – who most likely did most of the arranging work, and ensure that ... CD

A classic collaboration between Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco – one that uses the rootsier sounds of Pacheco's tumbao group to further focus the energy of Celia's vocals! The record's got a solid, cohesive feel that makes it easily one of the best Celia Cruz sessions of the 70s – a ... CD

A great mix of styles – blending together traditional instrumentation on tres, bongos, and congas, with modern salsa touches on the horns and the jazzy arrangements of the group. Most tracks are quite lively, and titles include "Quien Sabe, Sabe", "Nave Sin Rumbo", "C ... CD
