Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Celia Cruz & Johnny Pacheco

Tremendo Cache (remastered edition)
Vaya/Fania, 1975. Used
A classic collaboration between Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco – one that uses the rootsier sounds of Pacheco's tumbao group to further focus the energy of Celia's vocals! The record's got a solid, cohesive feel that makes it easily one of the best Celia Cruz sessions of the 70s – a ... CD

Conjunto Candela

Conjunto Candela Vol 2
Combo, 1977. Used
There's a slightly rootsy groove to this 70s set from Conjunto Candela – a cool mix of salsa-styled trumpet lines with tres from Tony Velez – a mode that's similar to some of the groups working on the Vaya and International labels at the time! Vocals are by Louie Rodriguez and Charlie ... CD

Johnny Ray & Salsa Con Clase

Encendido
JZ Productions, 2006. Used
Salsa with class from congolero Johnny Ray – a set that's got many of the same tight edges used in his 70s work as Johnny Zamot, but which comes across with a sound that's slightly more contemporary overall! The group here features Johnny on congas, plus horns, piano, percussion, and a bit ... CD

Eddie Palmieri

Lo Que Traigo Es Sabroso
Alegre, Early 60s. Used
Great early material from Eddie Palmieri – one of his classic records done with Conjunto La Perfecta – a group that's poised on contrapuntal trombone lines, and which had a very important influence on Latin jazz styles in the 60s! The use of trombone makes for lots of dark edges – ... CD

Johnny Pacheco with Pete Conde Rodriguez

La Perfecta Combinacion (remastered edition)
Fania, 1971. Used
A stellar Latin groover from Johnny Pacheco & Pete Colde Rodriguez – rightfully dubbed a perfect combination – recorded in 1969 and released in 1971, and we can think of no reason to have delayed such a smoking set! It's one of the better albums in the successful series of them ... CD

Herbie Hancock

Speak Like A Child
Blue Note, 1968. Used
A very sweet, and oft-overlooked session that has Herbie mixing a nice dose of lyricism into his usual soul jazz approach from the 60s! The sound's a bit farther-reaching than on some of Herbie's smaller group sessions – and the record features a sextet that includes Ron Carter, Mickey Roker ... CD
