I Hear Music

LP (Item 663765) MGM, Early 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
Also available
George Shearing — I Hear Music (10 inch LP) ... LP 5.99

Classic shearing from the 50s – with a wonderful mix of vibes – played by Joe Roland or Margie Hyams – plus guitar from Chuck Wayne or Richard Garcia.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Heavy original pressing!)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Way We Are (US pressing)
MPS, 1974. Very Good
Funky and Latiny! Although we don't normally dig records by George Shearing, this cool 1974 session for MPS is a nice groover with a good 70's sound that adds a lot of tight rhythm to Shearing's often-sleepy playing – coming up with a whole new sound that has some really wonderful moments! ... Jazz Concert
Capitol, Early 60s. Near Mint-
One of George's more jazz-based albums for Capitol from the 60s – and a great set that features longer tunes, more open solos, and a young Gary Burton on vibes! The group's a quintet, with John Gray on guitar, playing in a tone that's a bit blusier than we're used to hearing with Shearing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Monty Alexander

Taste Of Freedom
MGM, 1970. Very Good
Massively groovy work from Monty Alexander – thanks to some hip, soulful backings from the legendary Johnny Pate! The sound here is a lot more swinging than some of Alexander's trio albums – much more of a Verve-styled session with fuller backings behind a main soloist – in this ... LP, Vinyl record album

Amazing stuff from Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones!
