Sound Affects

LP (Item 662970) Polydor, 1980 — Condition: Sealed
A great later record by The Jam – a little bit of a step back into a rawer sound than they're somewhat slick sounding Setting Sons from the year before – but it's ultimately a pretty big creative step! While the sound a little more raw than on Setting Sons, The Jam is diversely inspired here as ever – really kind of achieving a deft balance between the feral energy of their earliest records and the moody mod melodicism of their more manicured work. Includes a couple of their greatest songs, too! Titles include "Pretty Green","Monday", "But I'm Different Now", the all time greats "Start" and "That's Entertainment", "Scrape Away", "Dream Time", Man In The Corner Shop" and "Music For The Last Couple".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Say what you want, we love this album! When it came out, we were such big Jam fans that we could never forgive Paul Weller – but now, nearly 20 years later, we're stunned at how great some of the soul songs on the album are. Sure, you've got to throw away about half the tracks – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Groundbreaking work from Laura Nyro – exactly the kind of record that sums up the unique genius in her music! The record's not folk, not pop, not soul, nor jazz vocals – but a new sort of style that draws a bit from all those genres, and comes up with a bold new approach that opened ...
