Curtis Counce Group Vol 2 – Counceltation

LP (Item 6621) Contemporary, 1957 — Condition: Very Good+

Curtis Counce is one of the few bassists who made a great leader too, and we've always sought out the albums under his name – and this collection of rare 50s material is excellent! Players include Jack Sheldon on trumpet, Harold Land on tenor, Carl Perkins on piano, and Frank Butler on drums – and titles include "Complete", "How Deep Is The Ocean", "Too Close For Comfort", "Mean To Me", "Stranger In Paradise", "Councelation", and "Big Foot".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Yellow label 70s pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Contemporary, 1957. Very Good-
A seminal session of LA hardbop – featuring a great group that includes Gerald Wilson, Jack Sheldon, Harold Land, Frank Butler, and pianist Carl Perkins, the unique talent who had a strange way of playing the keys (sideways!), and who died shortly after the recording of this set. A rather late recording for Pepper, but a great one played with some fierceness that you might not expect from the date of the recording. Contemporary, 1956. Very Good
Charlie Mariano was one of the best things to ever happen to Shelly Manne – as the young altoist's icy talent was a perfect match for Manne's west coast cool, but his Boston soul really added a lot more emotional depth than had ever been previously recorded on some of Manne's sessions. We'd sure like to have Cables' Vision – because by the end of the 70s, he was one of the hippest cats on the California scene!
