Early Recordings 1931 to 1937

LP (Item 659754) Philomel, 1930s — Condition: Very Good+
(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

West Of The Moon
RCA, 1956. Near Mint-

Killer work from Nina Simone's excellent Stroud Productions run – a set that wasn't issued by RCA in the early 70s, but which really matches the fire of her classics for the label! Chris Connor & Maynard Ferguson

Double Exposure
Atlantic, 1960. Near Mint-
One of Chris Connor's standout albums for Atlantic Records – and a session that actually makes us really appreciate the presence of Maynard Ferguson! About The Blues
Liberty, 1958. Very Good
Hip early work from Julie London – with full jazz orchestra backing by Russ Garcia, whose soundscapes are perfect for that dreamy style of singing she was using at the time – a blend of the sublime and sad, floating along with almost effortless ease, but hiding a huge wellspring of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1953. Near Mint-
From its booze-soaked title cut, to its haunting selection of lonely ballads like "Midnight Sun" and "Stranger Called The Blues", this is one of the most fantastic vocal jazz albums of all time – and a record that we'd recommend instantly to anyone! June Christy has an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blossom Dearie

My New Celebrity Is You
Daffodil, 1976. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A real standout in Blossom Dearie's run of albums for Daffodil Records – thanks to a lot of electric piano in the mix, and an expanded musical lineup that includes Hubert Laws on flute, Jay Berliner on guitar, Grady Tate on drums, and Toots Thielemans on harmonica! The style here is tighter ... LP, Vinyl record album
