Good Vibrations

LP (Item 6588) RCA/Victor, 1969 — Condition: Very Good

Pre-moog work from Hugo Montenegro – but a set that's still pretty darn groovy! The Beach Boys reference in the title is very well put, as Hugo's using some cool harmony vocals for the record – a chorus that definitely takes some of its inspiration from Brian Wilson, singing here both with lyrics, and some wordless modes – not on every track, but used enough to give the record a really Sunshine Pop sort of appeal! Other instrumentation is great too – electric bass underneath fuller strings, offbeat woodwinds, fuzzy guitar, and even a bit of whistling – which has a cool sort of electronic feel. The blend of sounds is amazing – very unique, and already showing that Montenegro's one of the hippest talents of the 60s. Titles include "Classical Gas", "Rosemary's Baby", "Night Rider", "Lady in Cement", "A Future Left Behind", "Tony's Theme", and "Good Vibrations".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stero pressing. Cover has wear, and marker along the top seam.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mmm Nice!
RCA, 1960. Very Good+
Chorus vocals and jazzy orchestrations – a real standout from the classic HiFi years at RCA, and the kind of a set that makes us say "Mmmmm . . . Nice!" The record's the only one we've ever seen by Bob Thompson, but it's a real doozy – a set that blends together mostly female ... LP, Vinyl record album

Henry Mancini

Mancini Touch
RCA, 1959. Very Good+
Delightful instrumentals – not as jazzy as Mancini's regular soundtrack work, but still pretty nice! The tracks are more in an easy instrumental vein – but given Hank's style, they're still pretty cool, especially as they feature work by west coast jazzmen like Shelly Manne, Victor ... Henry Mancini

Blues & The Beat
RCA, 1960. Very Good
This is a pretty jazzy record compared to the usual Mancini soundtrack-type stuff. It's mostly mellow the whole way through and has some very nice moments due to the quality of the playing. RCA, 1961. Very Good
One of the die-cut cover "Stereo Action" series, with a variety of film themes given a wild batchelor pad twist. Tracks include "Colonel Bogey", "Tara's Theme", "The High & The Mighty", and "Song Of The Barefoot Contessa". Not too way out, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Combo!
RCA, 1961. Near Mint-
A combo session with more than enough excitement to warrant the exclamation point in the title – one of Henry Mancini's jazziest records ever, and a date that's filled with some great west coast players! Uniquely Mancini
RCA, 1963. Very Good
Uniquely Mancini work from the great Henry – a sweet set of early 60s work for RCA, done with a harder jazz style than some of his other work of the time! Clebanoff & His Orchestra

Lush, Latin & Bossa Nova Too!
Mercury, 1963. Very Good
Way more than just the usual snoozer you might expect from Clebanoff – thanks to a good dose of bossa in the mix! The style here is still heavy on the strings, as in the usual Clebanoff mode – but the overall arrangements are also considerably lighter, and trade previous romantic ... LP, Vinyl record album
