Holy Diver

LP (Item 658813) Warner, 1983 — Condition: Very Good
One of the best heavy metal albums of all time! Ronnie James Dio had long been hailed for having some of the finest vocal chords in hard rock before this first Dio album arrived – having led the the obscure but beloved Elf, Rainbow and Black Sabbath in the 70s and earlier 80s – but it's Holy Diver that cements his legend. These days, it's kind of stunning how much he transcends metal cliche, as opposed to wallowing in it. Holy Diver has killer songs, Ronnie's unrivaled vocals and melodies, and the band focuses on crunching riffs instead of silly guitar solos and other elements that overwrought and badly dated so many other metal bands of the era. Includes "Stand Up & Shout", the eternal classics "Holy Diver" and "Rainbow In The Dark", "Gypsy", "Caught In The Middle", "Don't Talk To Strangers", "Straight Through The Heart", "Invisible" and "Shame On The Night".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Vinyl has an edge warp, but plays great. Cover has edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ides Of March

Vehicle
Warner, 1970. Near Mint-
These guys will forever be known for the jazzy grooving title hit – "Vehicle", a brassy driving number that seems as if it's always being used in some sort of car commercial (which must net these guys a lot of royalties!) – but which is usually mistaken by others for being the ... Little Feat

Down On The Farm
Warner, 1979. Very Good+
The last album of the 70s by Little Feat – and it's a strange one! On one hand, Little Feat is revisiting some of their country rock and New Orleans-inspired songs of years past – as well as the self-conciously oddball humor. But they're also working in a tighter, leaner and cleaner ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1976. Near Mint-
A very hip singer/songwriter – one who came to New York from Georga, recorded for Folkways at the attention of Phil Ochs, then cut this very cool, overlooked gem for Warner in the mid 70s! Titles are all originals – and include "Brown Eyed Georgia Darlin", "Decoration On ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet 70s set on Capricorn Records – one from a time when the label was moving away from a more slavishly southern sound, and really opening up to some other currents of the period! Leonard Cohen

Death Of A Ladies' Man
Warner, 1977. Very Good Gatefold
One of just a couple of albums by Leonard Cohen from the 80s – certainly an underappreciated one, in regard to his late 60s and early 70s canon – and that's a shame, because this is pretty brilliant stuff! Stylistically, there's sparse folk pop, some steel guitar twang and then ... LP, Vinyl record album
