Distant Thunder

LP (Item 658440) Mango, 1988 — Condition: Near Mint-
Titles include "The Message", "Don't Turn Around", "Justice", "Bittersweet", "International Melody", "Set Them Free", "Smokey Blues", and "Give A Little Love".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a promo stamp and two small spots of sticker residue.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bunny Wailer

Sings The Wailers
Mango, 1980. Very Good+
Nice later interpretations of Wailers classics, with a generous helping hand from Sly & Robbie, and adds a nice rendition of Curtis Mayfield's "Keep On Moving" to the set. A favorite album of ours from the twilight of the original roots era, with 10 tracks in all, including "Danc ... LP, Vinyl record album

Boris Gardiner

For All We Know
Dynamic Sounds, 1972. Very Good
Like a lot of the stuff on Dynamic, not so much a reggae outing, as a soul record by a reggae artist. With a smooth, sophisticated approach to soul like some of the best early 70s Chicago artists, and many of the tracks are covers of big stateside hits. Tracks include "For All We Know", ... Bob Marley & The Wailers

Bob Marley & The Wailers – Live
Island, 1975. Very Good+
A great global showcase for the growing power of Bob Marley – an excellent live set recorded in London in 1975, and a date that shows Bob and The Wailers working with the crowd in this really universal spirit! The group's almost got a funkier current here than on some of their studio record ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Cliff & Others

Harder They Come
Island, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A record that's not only a landmark in Jamaican music – but also a set that was to reggae what Curtis Mayfield's Superfly was to 70s soul! In other words, the set not only raised the bar for all the competition, it also ended up in a lot more record collections than most of them too – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walking On Sunshine
Epic/Ice, 1978. Very Good+
The purist reggae lover side of us wants to dismiss this is a largely commercial crossover record, but the electro loving side of us can't get enough of the title track, which was also covered to great effect by Rocker's Revenge. Much of the rest of the record hews closer to traditional reggae and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peter Tosh

Equal Rights
Columbia, 1977. Near Mint-
Peter Tosh's great, militant, second solo LP, one of the best of his career! Equal Rights is up to par with the finest Wailers LPs, although this is a bit heavier than the groovy, mellow Legalize It, the predecessor. A vital, hugely important, essential set of mid-to-late 70s reggae on Columbia. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peter Tosh

Legalize It
Columbia, 1975. Near Mint-
A real classic in mainstream reggae – the first full length set from Peter Tosh after his earlier singles with The Wailers! The record's still one of Tosh's greatest on record – composed, arranged, and produced by Peter himself – with tracks that include "Legalize It", ... LP, Vinyl record album
