Madison Beat

LP (Item 6544) Harmony, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
This was a follow-up to the hit Ray Bryant record, "Madison Time", and although it's an obvious attempt to cover it, it's also released by the same label (Columbia) that put out the Bryant version. Buddy Tate leads a tight little combo through "Madison Time", and a host of related dance cuts (like "Madison Bird"). Eddie Morrison does the "calls", and each song is in two parts, vocal and instrumental. All this, and you get a diagram for the Madison on the cover.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light surface wear and a small split on the top seam.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Texas tenor from the great Buddy Tate – heard here in a lesser-known session from the 70s – originally done for the indie Sackville label, and easily one of Tate's best recordings from the decade! Buddy & His Buddies
Chiaroscuro, 1973. Near Mint-
A nice bit of an American comeback set for Buddy Tate – although he'd never really "gone away", thanks to a good crop of European recordings in the earlier part of the 70s! The set's got Buddy leading a group of "buddies" that includes Roy Eldridge, Illinois Jacquet, Mary ... LP, Vinyl record album

ZT's Blues
Blue Note, 1961/1985. Near Mint-

Barney Kessel

Guitarra
RCA, 1970. Sealed
One of Barney Kessel's greatest albums ever – a rare Italian-only session that has a sparkly Brazilian groove! Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint-
An unusual session from the great Clare Fischer – although probably his best-known record as well! Jimmy Giuffre 3
Atlantic, 1957. Very Good
Groundbreaking trio work from the great Jimmy Giuffre – an album that cut loose both the piano and the drums – in a way that took Gerry Mulligan's earlier rhythm-less experiments with jazz, and pushed them one degree further! The group on the session features Giuffre on clarinet, tenor ... LP, Vinyl record album
Enja (Germany), 1971. Near Mint-
A rare Spanish session from trumpeter Dusko Goykovich – and easily one of the most soulful albums he ever recorded! Money Jungle
United Artists, 1962. Near Mint-
