LP (Item 653420) Everest, 1958 — Condition: Very Good

Later work from swing sax giant Charlie Barnet – but every bit as tight as his classics! If anything, the style here is even more sophisticated than before – as the Barnet groove is updated with some nice 50s arrangements from Bill Holman. Numbers include "Flying Home", "Early Autumn", "Midnight Sun", "Darn That Dream", and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Charlie Barnet

Charlie Barnet ! ? ! ?
Choreo, 1962. Near Mint-
Later work from Charlie Barnet, but a set that really cooks nicely overall – still with the strong sax tones of earlier years, but also with a groovier sort of sparkle that marks the 60s date of the session! The tunes are short, but Charlie gets plenty of space to do his thing – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Late 40s. Near Mint-

Dizzy and strings – a surprisingly great combination! Although it was Charlie Parker who first made famous the modernist "jazz with strings" approach, Dizzy does wonderfully here in the format – working in similar fashion with edgey backing from the "Operatic String ... LP, Vinyl record album

Woody Herman

Moody Woody
Everest, 1959. Very Good
Woody Herman plays Ralph Burns' 4 part suite "Summer Sequence" with his orchestra and Charlie Byrd soloing on guitar. There's also a few other shorter tracks, like "Bamba Samba" and "Prelude Ala Cha Cha" with a lighter feel, but as the title says, it's pretty moody ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jo Jones

Jo Jones Trio
Everest, 1959. Near Mint-
A real classic from drummer Jo Jones – and the kind of a spare session that really lets his work on drums come to the forefront! This album's got a very telling title – as Joe's guitar is working here with bigger arrangements by Bob Florence, backings that go for a mod 60s sound!
