No Question About It

LP (Item 653387) Columbia, 1984 — Condition: Near Mint-
Produced by featured guest Stanley Clarke, with sidemen that include Alphonso Johnson on bass, Todd Cochran on keyboards, Paul Jackson on guitar, Ndugu Chancler on drums, and Randy Kerber on keyboards and synths.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Miles Davis

Porgy & Bess
Columbia, 1958. Very Good
Way more than just a simple version of work from Porgy & Bess – and instead, a key collaboration between Miles Davis and Gil Evans – done with a sound that really transforms the tunes! True, the work here is all based on George Gershwin's original compositions – but through ... LP, Vinyl record album

Columbia, 1955. Very Good+
A classic from the undisputed master of the swing jazz jam session! Jumpin' At The Woodside has Buck Clayton recreating a Count Basie vibe, but in a much more open-ended, and long-grooving way! Most of the tracks on the record are nice and long – really opening up with a solo-heavy, jam ... LP, Vinyl record album

Arthur Blythe

Put Sunshine In It
Columbia, 1985. Very Good+
A record that really seems to live up to its title – as the sound here is maybe a little bit sunnier than on some of Arthur Blythe's previous albums! The record features heavy contributions from Todd Cochran – aka Bayete – who plays keyboards on most numbers, and introduces more ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

ESP
Columbia, 1965. Near Mint-
An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, ... Columbia, 1968. Near Mint-
A weird and wonderful chapter in the career of Django Reinhardt – a posthumous album that has his solo guitar parts taken from older Barclay albums, then reworked with added 60s sounds from Guitars Unlimited! Ramsey Lewis

Love Notes
Columbia, 1977. Very Good+
A great little album of mid 70s funk from Ramsey Lewis – very much in the mode of his Earth, Wind, & Fire related work – no surprise, since the album's dedicated to Charles Stepney, whose influence was such a key part of the sound of the group, and of some of Ramsey's other Kalimba-p ... Verve, 1968. Very Good+
A very groovy album that has Milt playing jazzy vibes with a tight string quartet that does more than just back him up – they sort of solo and provide some rhythm, too, and give the whole album a very very cool sound. The rest of the lineup's great, too, because James Moody is all over the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pepper Adams

Pepper Adams Quintet
Mode, Late 50s. Near Mint-
An obscure late 50s gem from Pepper – a stripped-down quartet session that has him blowing in a very open-ended mode – quite a difference from some of his more tightly arranged sets! The feel's a bit like Pepper's work with Donald Byrd, but even more openly swinging – played by a ... LP, Vinyl record album
