Hat Trick

LP (Item 653382) Warner, 1973 — Condition: Very Good+
Warm, mellow, and completely sublime – the mighty America at the height of their powers – working with a quality that nobody else can match! The trio wrap together all the best ideas that were bubbling under in the LA scene of the late 60s – vocal harmonies, studio perfection, and even touches of rootsy instrumentation – yet find a space to work all these elements together in a rich sound that's completely unique – amazingly understated at times, despite a near-perfect level of production! The whole album's great – even their original version of "Muskrat Love" – nestled in here next to "Rainbow Song", "Submarine Ladies", "Molten Love", "Green Monkey", and "Goodbye".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes printed inner sleeve and poster! Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

American Beauty
Warner, 1970. Very Good+
One of the crowning early moments from the young Grateful Dead – a key Warner studio album that really has the group moving from psychedelic to more roots-oriented modes – maybe a Marin vibe versus a Haight sort of happening – with loads of great guitar and pedal from Jerry Garcia ... Beau Brummels

Beau Brummels
Warner, 1975. Near Mint-
A 1975 reunion from the Beau Brummels – recorded after the ill-fated solo career of vocalist Ron Elliott, but done in a way that definitely shows some of the deeper themes of those later years as well! The style's a bit more polished than the group's previous Warner albums – but not in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maybe one of the most classic albums from Seatrain – and a set that definitely shows their huge progression from roots in The Blues Project, to their transformation into more of a roots rock band on the Marin County scene! Shawn Phillips

Rumplestiltskin's Resolve
A&M, 1976. Near Mint-
A wonderful bit of funky folksy rock – one that has Shawn Phillips working with members of The Headhunters, including Paul Jackson, Bill Summers, and Mike Clark.
