Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Osaka Monaurail

What It Is – What It Was
RD Records (Japan), 2000. Used
The debut ep from Osaka Monaurail – a totally great Japanese funk combo – and one with a sound to rival the best of the Soul Fire and Daptone generation! As you might guess from the cover art, the group's got a sound here that really pays tribute to funky grooves of the 60s and 70s ... CD

Soulive

Rubber Soulive
Royal Family, 2010. Used
Soulive pays homage to The Beatles – a straight up, raw & funky organ trio take on tracks from Rubber Soul (our favorite Beatles album, by the way) and other hits by The Fab Four – and it's great! There was a period from the mid 60s through the 70s in which a Beatles tribute LP, in ... CD
Yardbird Suite/P-Vine (Japan), 1996. Used
Groovy organ jazz from the Three Deuces – the trio of Eddie Roberts on guitar, Ian Rose on Hammond and Bill White on drums plus guest percussionist Bill White – a great little set recorded in London in 1996! The sound is strong and very authentic – like a lost 60s discovery ... CD

Robert Walter's 20th Congress

Money Shot
Fog City, 2000. Used
A killer album of soul jazz from Robert Walter – most famously known as the keyboardist with the Greyboy All Stars, but a killer player in his own right, and the leader of the soon-to-be famous 20th Congress! The group features some killer drumming by Stanton Moore of Galactic – and ... CD

Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra

Moods & Grooves – Ubiquity Studio Sessions Vol 2
Ubiquity, 2005. Used
The second funky set by Shawn Lee for Ubiquity – and even more ambitious than the first! The sound here is really expansive – much more in a 70s soundtrack/sound library vein than Lee's first go-round – and done in a style that mixes together harder funky rhythms with larger ... CD
Soul Cookers (France), 2006. Used
Heavy funk from Stoned Soul Picnic – with killer organ, walloping drums, and some moddish touches! Stoned Soul Picnic take a different approach from their topshelf modern funk peers in that they really go to town with the funky Hammond and Wurlitzer grooving – rich organ and keys that ... CD

Chico Mann

Manifest Tone Vol 1
Kindred Spirits (Netherlands), 2006. Used
A great blend of funky rhythms and African roots – served up by Antibalas guitarist Marquitos Garcia! There's certainly an element of the Antibalas groove going on here – as many tracks have that percolated sense of rhythm that Antibalas borrowed from 70s African influences. But the ... CD

Baker Brothers

In With The Out Crowd
Peddler (UK), 2005. Used
A searing set from The Baker Brothers – only the group's second album, but a smoking little live recording that almost blows away the first! These guys bring a new intensity to the deep funk scene – as they've got a command of their instruments that's so strong, they almost jam with ... CD

Moonfires (Alex Puddu)

Black Sugar
Al Dente (France), 2015. Used
A great new showcase for the music of Alex Puddu – the contemporary groover who's given us some wonderful music over the years – including his famous Golden Age Of Danish Pornography sets! This album's more of a back-to-basics affair for Puddu – recorded with a tight combo, and a ... CD

Brownout

Oozy
Nat Geo, 2012. Used
Massively heavy funk from Brownout – and a set that may well be their greatest so far! We weren't sure what to expect when the group hit the Nat Geo label – but honestly, they seem like they're even rawer and rootsier than before – really serving up a brilliant blend of funk and ... CD
Sussex/Raven (Australia), 1971/1972. Used
Some of the most righteous soul of the 70s – the first two albums by Bill Withers, back to back on one CD, and with bonus tracks! Bill had a sound like nobody else – a blend of folksy guitar, deeply soulful vocals, spare funky backings, and the occasional touch of strings and larger ... CD

Frank McComb

Love Stories
Sony, 2000. Used
A beautiful debut from Frank McComb – a singer we've really grown to love and know well from his indie releases of the 21st Century, but who surprisingly got his start on a major label! The album's near perfect all the way through – as wonderful a mellow soul document as you could hope ... CD
