Campus Hop – Jazz Goes Dancing

LP (Item 649453) RCA, 1958 — Condition: Near Mint-

Short tight ensemble jazz tracks, very much in a LA style from the initial post-cool years – set to tunes written by the legendary Harry Warren. The group includes Pell, Jack Sheldon, Bob Enevoldsen, Paul Moer, and Mel Lewis – and tracks include "Lulu's Back In Town", "Java Junction", "Summer Night", "Remember Me", and "I'll String Along With You".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Early 80s Spanish Fresh Sound pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jackie McLean

Monuments
RCA, 1979. Near Mint-
A rare electric outing from legendary altoist Jackie McLean – and one that comes off surprisingly well, given that the move was quite a shift for the reedman! The album's got a spiritual current that McLean developed in some of his earlier 70s material – like his gems for the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Long Yellow Road
RCA, 1974. Near Mint-
A 70s classic from the team of Toshiko Akioshi and Lew Tabackin – a duo who did for the jazz ensemble mode in their generation what Kenny Clarke and Francy Boland did in the 60s! The material here is wonderfully inventive – the kind of compositions that Toshiko wouldn't have even ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA/Pickwick, 1962. Near Mint-
A reunion of sorts for Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan – given that the pair had played together on record 5 years before, in a similar session for Verve! This album's almost lighter and more airy than the previous one – as it's done in a mode that echoes strongly with Desmond's own ... LP, Vinyl record album

A beautiful bit of lost Getz from the 60s – a record of incredible depth that's somehow gotten lost in the shuffle of time! One of Paul Horn's groovier albums from the 60s – and a record that features some nice arrangements by Lalo Schifrin! As the title might make you guess, the album's kind of a "jazz mass", and replicates the Kyrie, Gloria, and Offertory progression of a regular Catholic mass. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

70s repackaging of Desmond Blue – a cool jazz classic from altoist Paul Desmond and guitarist Jim Hall! One of a few key efforts done by Michel Legrand for RCA in the 70s – sessions that stand out as some of his best jazz work from the decade, and which present Legrand in unfettered brilliance, both as a player and arranger! Insights
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
Always-amazing work from the team of pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi and reedman Lew Tabackin – and a set that may well be one of the ensemble's most ambitious records to date – given that side two features a long, complicated suite that has roots in older Japanese musical styles!
