❔
5 years after they made their first set of groundbreaking Braziliany jazz tracks together, Bud Shank and Laurindo Almeida went back into the studio to record another great batch for Pacific Jazz. That second set of sessions is captured here in its entirety, and it features Shank and Almeida playing with the looser rhythm team of Gary Peacock and Chuck Flores on a number of short groovy tracks that clearly had a big influence on the bossa generation. Titles include "Waltz Frio & Calor", "Sunset Baion", "Mood Antigua", "Choro In A", "The Color Of Her Hair", and "Nocturno".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Milton Nascimento

Milton Nascimento Ao Vivo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Used
A live album from Milton Nascimento, but a set that's got all the majesty of his studio work of the 70s – thanks to a core group that's really wonderful, and some larger orchestrations that must have taken up a fair bit of space on the stage! Nascimento's got that wonderfully expressive ... CD

Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil

Tropicalia 2 (US pressing)
Elektra, 1993. Used
Well, it's not the 60s anymore – but this is still a wonderful album that reunites Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil in the spirit of their Tropicalia years – done in a style that shows that creative invention was still alive in MPB during the 90s! There's echoes here of modes to come by ... CD

Chico Buarque

Chico Ao Vivo
BMG (Brazil), 1999. Used 2CD
Beautiful live material by Chico – and the best record he's made in years! The set has a similar feel to the recent Gal Costa live set on BMG – with 2 discs worth of material, recorded with backing by a great little combo in an intimate live setting. Chico's voice is incredibly warm, ... CD

Tutty Moreno

Forcas D'Alma
Sons Da Bahia (Brazil), 1998. Used
Nice little jazzy session by Brazilian drummer Tutty Moreno, best known to the world as the husband of Joyce, but a true talent in his own right. Joyce guests on two tracks on the disc – and she both sings and plays guitar, in her usual beautiful style – but the group's also augmented ... CD

Paulinho Da Viola

Eu Canto Samba
RCA (Japan), 1989. Used
Slight hints of gray mark the hair of Paulinho Da Viola on the cover – and they also underlie the maturity in the music that makes this set so great! Paulinho first gave us some excellent samba sounds in the 70s – but at the end of the following decade, he's still a master of care and ... CD

Dom Um Romao

Rhythm Traveller
Mr Bongo (UK), 1998. Used
Excellent later album by Dom Um Romao that caputures all of the energy and excitement of his best 70's recordings. Milton Nascimento

Geraes (plus bonus tracks)
EMI (Japan), 1976. Used
Beautiful stuff – and one of Milton Nascimento's greatest albums of the 70s! The style here is a bit more subdued than on some of his later work – but in a way that's really majestic and soulful, showing the further development of Milton's unique idiom as he becomes one of the ... CD

Jorge Ben

Forca Bruta
Philips/Dusty Groove, 1970. Used
A fantastically soulful album from Jorge Ben – one of his greatest records ever, and a key part of Brazilian music in the 70s! The album marks an earthier shift for Jorge – a sound that's still rooted in the samba influences of the 60s, but which also takes on a bit more soul at the ... CD
