Wonderful modern bossa by Lisa Ono! The set's like all of Ono's excellent albums from Japan – very traditional bossa sounding, recorded with some of the best Brazilian musicians available, plus a few very capable ringers from Japan. The record feels like a mixture of classic 60s female bossa vocals with some of the lighter jazz styles forged in Brazil during the 80s – and it offers a baker's dozen bossa tunes that include "O Corso", "Roda De Choro", "O Samba", "Clea", "Grumari", "Cancela", and "Orixa".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

RCA (Brazil), 1974. Used
Incredible work by this oft-overlooked Brazilian singer! The overall style of the record reminds us a bit of some of the great European singers of the late 60s – Brel, Scott Walker, and others – and the arrangements by Heraldo Do Monte and Hareton Salvanini are wonderfully baroque. ... CD
Philips/Water, 1971. Used
A rare British recording from Gilberto Gil – sung completely in English, and recorded while living in London, in political exile along with Caetano Veloso! The album's somewhat similar to Veloso's famous London album from 1971 – certainly in structure, as the backings are relatively ... CD

Toninho Horta

Moonstone
Verve, 1989. Used
A lovely blend of fusion and Brazilian roots – and one of Toninho Horta's standout sets from his US years at Verve! The album's got a warm, organic feel that's quite different from other American fusion of the time – still filled with some of the influences that drove that music in the ... CD

Tide (with bonus tracks)
A&M/CTI, 1970. Used
An incredible record – from the first off-key note to the last! The album's filled with some wonderfully moody LA studio sounds, arranged by Deodato, and a has a great swirling mix of sound that weaves around Jobim's lofty guitar and piano beautifully – complex, but still with the airy ... CD

Hermeto Pascoal

Zabumbe Bum A
Warner (Brazil), 1979. Used
A gem of an album from Hermeto Pascoal – right up there with 70s classics like A Musica Libre and Slaves Mass – and done with a similar sort of energy that goes way beyond jazz, way beyond conventional Brazilian music – into territory that can only be described as Hermeto-like! ... CD
Biscoito Fino (Brazil), 2003. Used 2 CDs
A nice little live project, based on the music of Jacob Do Bandolim – one that captures some of the true classics of the Brazilian bandolim (mandolin) master, but presents them in new versions with a variety of artists and instrumental approaches! Some tunes are jazzy, some are more classic. CD
