Fania All-Stars — Live At Yankee Stadium Vols 1 & 2 ... LP 24.99

By the mid 70s, the New York Latin scene was boomin' so large it could easily fill venues like Yankee Stadium – as you'll hear on this excellent live set from the Fania All-Stars, a monster record that easily ranks with the best live Latin sides of the time – like Eddie Palmieri at Sing Sing, the Tico-Alegre All Stars at Carnegie Hall, or Mongo Santamaria at Yankee Stadium! Tracks are nice and long – a real mix of soul and Latin, with slight funk and electric touches – and players include Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Bobby Valentin, Mongo Santamaria, Ricardo Ray, and Roberto Roena. Vocals are by a host of singers that include Santos Colon, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Rivera, and Celia Cruz – and titles on this first volume include "Pueblo Latino", "Mi Gente", and "Soy Guajiro".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Fania All-Stars

Live At The Cheetah Vol 2
Fania, Early 70s. Used
Killer early work by the Fania All Stars – caught live at the legendary Cheetah club, which was the heart of the New York salsa scene at the start of the 70s! The album is easily one of the best by the group – and features long tracks that really capture the jamming intensity that ... CD
Fania, Early 70s. Used
A wonderful soundtrack to one of the most important films to Latin music in the 70s! This double-length set features a huge array of work from the movie – not only important musical bits, both live and in the studio, but also snippets from TV, concert introductions, and lots lots more that ... CD

Fania All Stars

California Jam
Fania, 1980. Used
A cheesy cover, but a killer album from the Fania All-Stars – one that's quite different than most of their other work at the time, with an open-ended jam session feel that really takes us back to the old days! The group here is really just a sextet – the core combo used to launch the ... CD

Willie Colon

El Juicio
Fania, 1972. Used
Supposedly the end of Willie Colon's early "crime" career – as the title and cover imply that he's finally been brought to trial! Don't worry about Willie being beaten down, though, because the music on the album is every bit as fierce and powerful as ever – and features a ... CD
Fania, 1981. Used
An unusual self-produced effort from Hector Lavoe – but a record that's every bit as strong as his other solo records from the time! Of course, Hector's got some big help on the record from Louie Ramirez and Jose Febles – who most likely did most of the arranging work, and ensure that ... CD

Hector Lavoe

La Voz
Fania, 1975. Used
A classic bit of 70s salsa gold from vocalist Hector Lavoe – a record done in close collaboration with Willie Colon, with whom Lavoe had worked on a great run of albums during the late 60s and early 70s! The set's got a slightly warmer and more straightforward feel than some of Willie's ... CD
Fania, 1979. Used
An amazing achievement for Ruben Blades – a full suite of tracks conceived and composed by Ruben as a "disco drama" on wax! The work isn't the disco-styled album you might think from this description – and is more of a mini-opera or concept album by Blades, one that features ... CD

Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz

El Bestial Sonido (remastered edition)
Vaya/Fania, 1971. Used
One of the real standouts in the career of Ricardo Ray and Bobby Cruz – a record of incredible tightness, and one that set a whole new level for Puerto Rican salsa in the 70s! There's still a few traces here of the Latin Soul years – sometimes in the rhythms, at other times in the ... CD
Tico/Fania/Codigo, Early 70s. Used
A 70s masterpiece from Eddie Palmieri – a brilliant set of Latin tracks with a modern jazz edge that's really astounding! From the first note of the record, Eddie's piano makes a bold statement of difference – edging into the rest of the group with slight modern touches, and a slightly ... CD

Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe

Deja Vu
Fania, 1978. Used
It's deja vu all over again, in this strong set of tracks that features Willie Colon working again with his best lead singer – the legendary Hector Lavoe! The tracks are pulled from the pair's strong work for Fania from the early 70s – and the set's a great package that includes some ... CD
Fania, 1972. Used
One of Ray Barretto's hardest-hitting salsa albums of the 70s – a raw set of grooves that's got Ray moving away from the playfulness of the Latin Soul years, into a more righteous mode that's easily guessed at from the title of the set! The vibe here is very straightforward – with Ray ... CD
International/Fania/Codigo, 1973. Used
The mighty Apollo Sound combo at the height of their powers – hard-hitting on percussion, but also sparkling with some jazzier touches on tenor sax, flute, and trombone! Roberto Roena had a slightly looser groove than some of his contemporaries, and as you'll hear on this set, there's space ... CD
