❔
(Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Howlin Wolf

Howlin Wolf Album
Cadet, 1968. Very Good+
A killer album of funky blues – recorded by Howlin Wolf during the period when Chess/Cadet was backing its older artists up with some of the newer funk musicians it had working in its studios! The overall sound works quite well – and although purists at the time moaned at the way ... LP, Vinyl record album

Columbia, 1972. Near Mint-
A very rootsy feel overall – much more delta blues styled than some of Taj's other albums of the time – mostly with acoustic guitar behind his vocals, plus some occasional backup support from The Pointer Sisters – although even they manage to hit a rootsier feel than usual too! ... This Is Buddy Guy
Vanguard, 1968. Near Mint-
A classic killer from Buddy Guy – the kind of electrified Chicago sounds that made him a legend, right out of the box! Taj Mahal

Natch'l Blues
Columbia, 1968. Very Good+
A great title for this second set from Taj Mahal – because the sound here is even more stripped-down and natural than on his first LP! Bo Diddley (Chess)
Chess, 1958. Near Mint-
Fantastically twangy! We never tire of Bo Diddley's incredible guitar work – and you'll get plenty of it in this early album he cut for Chess, a tasty batch of 12 tracks, all original tunes with a stripped-down gutbuckety sound – rough, raw rhythms that feature plenty of Bo's gritty ... Eddie Jefferson

Things Are Getting Better
Muse, 1974. Near Mint-
One of the weirdest, wildest albums ever from Eddie Jefferson – a real standout classic that shows him retooling his sound for the 70s!
