Sitar Beat

LP (Item 6395) Mercury, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Groovy groovy sitar pop – played by Big Jim Sullivan, also known as Lord Sitar! This set is a great session of 60s pop tunes, turned Eastern, in the mode of work by Ananda Shankar or Vince Bell – with a blend of original compositions, mixing sitar, tabla, and all manner of baroque 60s arrangements. The tracks include some excellent originals – like "Ltts" and "The Koan" – plus groovery covers like "She's Leaving Home", "Sunshine Superman", and Donovan's great "Trans Love Airways"!  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original US stereo pressing. Cover has a small cutout hole and light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A fairly sincere collection of instrumental versions of tracks from Sgt Pepper's, performed by the great Brit Easy bandleader Peter Knight, who worked with Scott Walker, Dusty Springfield, and Dee Dee Warwick. Martin Denny

Primitiva
Liberty, 1958. Near Mint-
One of Martin Denny's greatest albums – thanks to some extra special added elements! For the record, Denny's classic quartet is augmented by a wealth of odd added percussion – including gongs, cymbals, tuned logs, steel drums, chimes, and "chromatic bamboo"! All of these ... LP, Vinyl record album
Liberty, 1967. Near Mint-
Pretty darn nice later work from Martin Denny – a great batch of sexy tracks with stunning backings, and a really nice late 60s mellow piano groove! Brass Menagerie 1974
Project 3, 1974. Very Good+
Forget how much you don't like Enoch Light's snoozy early albums for Command, these Brass Menagerie LPs are very nice, very groovy, and have a good sound that's much livelier than Enoch's other LPs. This one includes goofy covers of "Shaft" and "Season Of The Witch", plus " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Martin Denny

Another Taste Of Honey
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
A sweet follow up to Martin Denny's Taste Of Honey album – one that's got a great blend of piano, vibes, and percussion – all used in a way that's almost more jazz-like than some of Denny's earlier work! The formula works great to transform a host of 50s and 60s tunes – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Limelight, 1968. Sealed Gatefold
A very cool set from electronic pioneer Ruth White – a record that was originally issued as part of the avant modern series on Limelight, and which has a very different vibe than some of her more easygoing albums!
