Legendary Alberta Hunter – London Sessions 1934

LP (Item 637488) DRG, 1934 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold

(Red label pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

La Val, 1972. Sealed
A compelling classic of raunchy blues – and a real standout in the indie scene of the 70s! The album features a very unique first side – one that's almost a party record at points, as Chick Willis runs through a live 21 minute take on the title tune – complete with some very ... Albert King

Born Under A Bad Sign
Stax, 1967. Fair
One of THE electric blues records of the 60s – a seminal set by Albert King that was probably blasted out of more college dorm rooms than southside juke joints, but which still more than deserves its due! The set was recorded by Stax with a nice raw sound – guitar very much upfront, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
A funky bit of blues from Otis Rush – the guitarist's debut album, and a surprisingly great batch of tracks recorded at Fame Studios! Production is by Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravenites, who are clearly going for more of a crossover sound than Rick Hall might have given the set – but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bell, Early 60s. Very Good
A 60s album that reissues Elmore James' excellent Sky Is Crying album for Sphere Sound – raw blues in the style you'd expect from this legendary bluesman. The set was recorded shortly before he passed – and titles include "Dust My Broom", "Sky Is Crying", "Stand ... LP, Vinyl record album

Albert King

Years Gone By
Stax, Early 70s. Very Good+
Soulful blues from Albert – recorded in Memphis with some strong arrangements by Al Jackson. The tracks aren't necessarily in the funky blues mode, but Albert's guitar and vocals are great all the way through, with that tight crossover sound that made him one of the best acts of his time in ... Jimmy Johnson

Johnson's Whacks
Delmark, 1979. Near Mint-

Charles Mann

Say You Love Me Too
ABC, 1973. Near Mint-
Weird mix of Philly soul production with vocals that have more of a southern soul kind of feel to them. Charles' voice is nice and rich, and the tracks are arranged by Vince Montana & Norman Harris. Includes some nice ballads, and a few uptempo tracks, including a Philly version of Steely Dan' ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dizzy Gillespie

Portrait Of Jenny
Perception, 1971. Near Mint-
A sweet slow and groovy funk LP recorded by Dizzy for the Perception label! The record is similar to his other LPs from the time in that it's got a cool electric feel that you don't really associate with Diz. The whole album has a sly sweet funky sound that's part CTI/part Latin-tinged Dizzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
