12 String Guitar

LP (Item 637371) World Pacific, 1963 — Condition: Very Good+
A set that features Joe Pass working on a sweet version of the instrument in the title – one that sounds as if it might have a bit of electricity to pick up Pass' subtle tones on the strings – which themselves ring out with a sound that's full, but never overdone. The group's listed as "The Folkswingers" – an acoustic trio that features sweet additional rhythm guitar from John Pisano, who really makes the album groove – plus bass from Charlie Haden and drums from Larry Bunker. Titles include "Charade", "Sunday In New York", "Wives & Lovers", "Lawrence Of Arabia", "Love With The Proper Stranger", and "Love Theme Of Tom Jones".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Joe Pass

Catch Me!
Pacific Jazz, 1963. Very Good
Nice, mellow, and very groovy! Joe Pass plays here with the piano and organ of Clare Fischer, who's always one of our favorites – a player who manages to turn any session into something more than it appears at face value – thanks to a strong sense of craft and cleverness! Clare's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gerald Wilson

Eternal Equinox
World Pacific, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
One of Gerald Wilson's hippest albums for World Pacific – and all of them are pretty darn hip! This set is one of Gerald's last for the label – cut in a run of very successful, and very strong big band soul jazz albums that brought together the cream of the crop of the LA underground. ... Gerry Mulligan Quartet with Chet Baker

Reunion With Chet Baker
World Pacific, 1957. Very Good
Late 50's session in which Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker try to recreate the sound that made them a legend on the West Coast in the first place. Cool breezy renditions of a number of standards, held down by the drumming of Dave Bailey and the bass of Henry Grimes, which is a nice treat on an album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bud Shank

Michelle
World Pacific, 1965. Very Good
Bud Shank takes on the sounds of The Beatles – and a whole host of other 60s pop stars as well – all with results that are as jazzy as they are groovy! The album's one of a few that Bud cut for Liberty in this format – alto and flute spread out over fuller backings from Bob ... LP, Vinyl record album

Les McCann with Gerald Wilson

More Or Les McCann
World Pacific, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
A nice session of west coast soul jazz – and one that has Les McCann fronting the soulful group of Gerald Wilson. Les sings on a few tracks, but these are mostly sleepy covers of bluesy standards – like "Please Send Me Someone To Love" and "Since I Fell For You". ... LP, Vinyl record album
World Pacific, 1958. Near Mint-
Very early work from Chico Hamilton – recorded in a piano trio mode that predates his more famous chamber quintet – working with pianist Freddie Gambrell and bassist Ben Tucker on a set of tunes that are mostly standards, and a few bluesy piano explorations.
