Green River

LP (Item 636419) Fantasy, 1968 — Condition: Very Good-
Creedence Clearwater Revival at the height of their powers – working in this amazing style that has roots in the swamp rock world of the late 50s, but which is produced with a gritty, almost trippy sort of quality – a mode that uses plenty of echo to really make this magic around the edges of the music! John Fogerty's vocals and guitar are razor-sharp throughout – and some of the album's lesser-known gems really help you situate the sound of the group past their hits – as a way of getting at the power they brought to the Cali scene when they first emerged. Titles include the classic "Bad Moon Rising" – plus "Green River", "Commotion", "Wrote A Song For Everyone", "Lodi", "Cross Tie Walker", and "Sinister Purpose".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gale Force
Fantasy, 1977. Very Good+
A rock/soul outing from Gale Force – a group comprised of brothers Len and Ken Gale, hence the name! The set's an odd one – as it was produced by Wayne Henderson during the height of his glory days at Fantasy, and features keyboards by Bobby Lyle – so you'd guess that it would ... One of the great fake live albums of the 60s – a set that promises to be a concert performance from the title and cover, but which actually just features The Seeds playing live together in the studio! Let's Dance
EMI, 1983. Very Good+
A mega-hit for David Bowie – and an album that reduced some of the complexity of previous efforts, yet still managed to hold onto all that was great! Columbia, 1969. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power!
