Profoundly Blue

LP (Item 6356) Muse, 1973 — Condition: Very Good+
Late recording by bluesy jazz guitarist Tiny Grimes, recorded with a host of the usual Muse suspects, like Houston Person, Harold Mabern, and Freddie Waits. There's an electric bass on the session, which pumps up Grimes' guitar a little bit more than usual (as if it needed pumping!), and the tracks are long, with bigger solos than Grimes usually takes. Cuts include "Tiny's Excercise", "Cookin' At the Cookery", "Blue Midnight", and "Backslider", which has a bit of singing by Tiny.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label stereo pressing. Cover has some ringwear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lester Bowie

Fast Last!
Muse, 1974. Near Mint-
One of the excellent avant sides for Muse from the early 70's, and a record that features Lester Bowie playing in a number of different settings – all with a sound that's different from his Art Ensemble recordings, and from his work for ECM. One track has him playing a duet with pianist John ... LP, Vinyl record album

Never Again!
Muse, 1972. Very Good
Nice tight back-to-basics session by Moody that has him playing with an organ combo. Mickey Tucker's on the keys, Roland Wilson plays bass, and Eddie Gladden handles the drum chores. Sketches Of Spain

A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! Miles Davis

Water Babies
Columbia, 1976. Near Mint-
A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years! The set was recorded in 1967, but unissued until Miles late 70s time away from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Kind Of Blue

What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Man & Woman
Groove Merchant, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the more laidback albums from George Freeman's early 70s run – but still a great little set that shows the mellower side of his talents!
