Vippin & Voppin

LP (Item 635361) Charly (UK), Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good
Way more than just another Eddie Bo compilation – as the set features lots of rare singles from the Seven B label, plus a few previously unissued tracks as well!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dee Clark

Keep It Up
Vee Jay/Charly (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint-
A great collection of Dee's best work for the Vee Jay label – and even better than the usual hit collection, because it features cuts he recorded with The Dells, The Kook Gents, The Upsetters, and The Delegates. Dee was one of the label's most versatile singers, and as you'll hear on this ... LP, Vinyl record album
Minit/Charly (UK), Early 60s. Near Mint-
Rare work by The Showmen – a great harmony vocal group from the early 60s, and the first famous group to feature General Johnson – the unique singer who later went onto front Chairmen Of The Board! The tracks here have a rough doo-woppy quality – dripping with soul, and handled ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sam McClain – aka Mighty Sam – was one of the many great southern soul artists who recorded for the Amy label during the late 60s, and like most of those artists, Sam's never gotten his proper due, even though his work is right up there with the best of his generation. Thisset finally ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tommy Stewart

Tommy Stewart
Abraxas, 1976. Very Good+
Funky genius from the Hotlanta scene of the 70s – the one and only album recorded by Tommy Stewart, a huge force in some of the greatest club tracks of the south, including the massive Spirit Of Atlanta album! Blue Note, 1975. Very Good+
The best of two self-titled albums by this hip LA vocal quartet – recorded for Blue Note with arrangements by Jerry Peters, and jazzy soul style that reminds us a bit of Creative Source on their third or forth LPs. Fantastic work from Tamiko Jones – one of the more enigmatic soul singers of her generation! Originals

Game Called Love
Motown, 1974. Near Mint-
Kind of a confused effort by The Originals – with a mix of styles that has the band running through material that includes some mellow countrified soul, plus sweeter ballads that are more in line with the group's better work. Arrangements are by Stevie Wonder, Paul Riser, James Carmichael, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tower Of Power

Urban Renewal
Warner, 1974. Near Mint-
One of the best early albums from Tower Of Power – with kind of a funky choppy groove that feels like a San Francisco version of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, riffing away in a stoner funk mode that always sounds like it might go off slightly, but which always wobbles back on course. ... Jose Feliciano

Alive Alive O!
RCA, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A beautiful little live album from Jose Feliciano – recorded in London at the end of the 60s, with a sound that's often more stripped down than his studio work of the time! Jose's on vocals and guitar, backed by only a bit of bass and percussion – so the record's almost got the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jermaine Jackson

Feel The Fire
Motown, 1977. Near Mint-
Jermaine's going the way of most of Motown at this point – popping the bass pretty heavily, and grooving in a smooth funky mode. The cuts that go too over the top with the funky stuff definitely lose us – but there's a few decent mellow soul tracks that redeem the album, and which keep ... LP, Vinyl record album
