Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

After Hours (Roulette)
Roulette/EMI (Japan), 1961. Used
Sarah Vaughan may be known for an earlier recording of After Hours for the Columbia label in the 50s – but on this early 60s set for Roulette, the title really fits her style – and is perfect for the mature, melancholy way that Vaughan has of putting over a tune! Sarah always had a ... CD

Mercury/Universal (France), 1958. Used Gatefold
A really rich album by Sarah Vaughan – recorded in Paris in 1958, with orchestrations by Quincy Jones – and large group backing that includes some great tenor work by Zoot Sims! The session's one of Vaughan's most cohesive albums of the period, and although it's got "violins" ... CD
Roulette/EMI (UK), 1963/1964. Used
Beautiful later stuff from Sarah! Although it's easy to think that she "sold out" by making albums like this for Roulette – with a larger backing than before, and more of a pop feel – these albums are also incredible, and feature a sophisticated sense of interpretation we ... CD
EmArcy, 1950s. Used
One of the fuller-sounding albums recorded by Sarah Vaughan for Emarcy in the 50s – a set of George Gershwin numbers, mostly set to large studio backings directed by Hal Mooney! The lush approach is a nice one for Vaughan, and an early hint of her talents in such a setting – one that ... CD

Musical Heritage Society, 1973. Used 2 CDS
A 70s set from Sarah Vaughan, but one that's recorded in a classic small combo mode – acoustic overall, and a bit of a change from her other sessions for Mainstream Records! The date's a live one, and the tracks are taken at a looser level than some of Vaughan's studio work – a bit ... CD
Mercury/Verve, 1964. Used
Sarah Vaughan and Henry Mancini – a surprising combination, and one that's served up in an equally surprising style! The set was cut at the height of Mancini's 60s popularity, but the overall feel is quite different than his groovy soundtracks – and much more in the mature, boozy style ... CD
Verve, 1980. Used 2 CDs
A brilliant live set by Betty Carter – originally issued on her own Bet-Car label in 1980, and a perfect summation of the underground soul that was bubbling through her work in the 70s! The Betty you hear here is way different than the Betty of earlier years – freer, more soulful, ... CD
