Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Prestige (Japan), Mid 50s. Used
A stone classic from the Modern Jazz Quartet – recorded back when the group still featured Kenny Clarke in its membership, but already with some of the more serious, somber tones that would mark the combo's more famous years! A great early 60s set from Modern Jazz Quartet! This one marked the then growing sophistication in the sound of the Modern Jazz Quartet – a concept album based on themes and characters from the Italian tradition of commedia dell'arte. The music is served up in gentle sound poems that have a ... CD
Atlantic (Japan), 1957. Used
One of the first Modern Jazz Quartet albums on Atlantic – a 1957 set that finds the crew in one of their freshest periods – laying down their soon-to-be trademark style in a fashion that warrants the self-titled tag! The set kicks off with a stellar medley of standards, all given the ... CD

Modern Jazz Quartet

Music From Odds Against Tomorrow
United Artists, 1959. Used
A brilliant album through and through – not just a standout from the late 50s years of the Modern Jazz Quartet, but also a compelling soundtrack composed entirely by pianist John Lewis! Lewis' writing was always a key part of the group's sound, but here it really comes into its own – ... CD

Ornette Coleman

Art Of The Improvisers
Atlantic, Early 60s. Used
Great lost work from Ornette Coleman – material recorded in New York and LA during the years 1959 through 1961 – never issued at the time, but pulled together in this wonderful package at the start of the 70s! Although not recorded as an official album, the record stands easily with ... CD
Atlantic (Japan), 1966. Used
A heck of a great little record – one that shouldn't work so well, but it does! For the set, Sonny Stitt's blowing in front of a larger brass section – and while the prospect of a Sonny Stitt big band record might not sound that great at first, this one really kicks, largely because of ... CD

Robin Kenyatta

Gypsy Man
Atlantic/Wounded Bird, 1973. Used
Sweet electric funk from Robin Kenyatta – but a set with some slightly complicated moments too! The album's a bit like some of Yusef Lateef's more electric moments on Atlantic, although probably not as cerebral overall – and Robin plays a range of reeds, including alto, flute, and ... CD
