A beautiful groover on MPS – with the kind of heavenly off-kilter sound that made the label so great during the early 70s! The album features a strange group that includes Gulda on piano, Fritz Pauer on electric piano, and Klaus Weiss on drums. The mixture of acoustic and electric piano at the same time is very very cool – and Weiss' drums are always nice and hard, and keep the whole session grooving along nicely! Pauer wrote all the tracks, and he plays the electric piano as sort of a bubbling rhythmic instrument with a very groovy edge – over which Gulda solos with tight virtuosity. Cuts include the slightly funky groover "Sunshine", the dark and moody "Fata Morgana", which opens into a nice funky passage in one part, and the track "Encore". Nice stuff, crisply remastered for this new CD issue!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Nice one! Although Evidence and other labels have been reissuing lots of work from Ra's classic years, there's been a real dearth of material from the crucial early 70's period – when the band was hitting lots of strange grooves, and going way way out, farther than ever before. This ... CD

MPS, 1971. Used
Oscar's great connection here is with the rhythm team of Louis Hayes on drums and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass – both of whom bring in a nice degree of subtlety to the set, and make it one of Peterson's most gently-grooving albums for MPS! There's a warm, round quality to most of ... CD
